Lemire bringing together all his DC horror stuff. Poor Maxine...

Old Man Constantine is a trip though.

Maybe this should have been called Constantine: Green Hell?

In first issue people are looking for hep and find Constantine. In second issue Constantine find Animal Woman and wants her help, while Swamp Thing can just stall the enemies. In third issue he mentions that Swamp Thing and Animal Woman are not strong enough to win this so obviously Constantine makes a heroic sacrifice so that Swamp Thing would get a power boost. Why Swamp Thing and not Animal Woman or someone else? Probably only because this title was called Swamp Thing. Oh, and obviously while making the deal with the devil Constantine has to look cooler than everyone else.

Lemire had very good yet sad ending to his Animal Man run with Buddy having only a "limited" amount of time left to stay with his family. Here he just died and Maxime got angry with everything, so bland and banal.

First issue also had some cool visual with evil Swamp Thing killing people and it is rather unfortunate that in the end "evil forces" were reduced to some generic monsters. And it is weird to see Swamp Thing and Animal Woman talk in monologue when they probably never even met before this.

This looked really good after first issue, but to me ended up as a major disappointment.

How many books does Constantine hijack at this point?

Sometimes it feels like every book that he appears in for more than just a cameo.

Constantine remains a spotlight hog to the very end.

Decent read but Animal Woman doesn't really feel like she contributed much since the plot is basically just an endless hold the line until Constantine finally does the thing to give Swampy a power boost that resolves the conflict.

Yeah, her only purpose is to fill pages and give few more cool moments for Constantine when he has to convince her.

Finally got around to reading this. Visually, the series was a feast for our eyes. But I’d say each issue declined a bit story wise where the finale was just kinda going through the motions by the end. At first Old Man Constantine was kind of amusing but by the end it felt like just too much, particularly when he “killed himself to save the day.”

Onward to hype for the forthcoming movie I suppose…
“Look, you can’t put the Superman #77s with the #200s. They haven’t even discovered Red Kryptonite yet. And you can’t put the #98s with the #300s, Lori Lemaris hasn’t even been introduced.” — Sam
“Where the hell are you from? Krypton?” — Edgar Frog
