Default 10 Sci-Fi Sequels That Surpassed The Original

CBR has a list of 10 Sci-Fi sequels that surpassed the original. Not sure I agree with all of these but here they are:

    https://www.cbr.com/sci-fi-sequels-b...future-ii-1989

    10. Back To The Future II (1989)
    09. Aliens (1986)
    08. Bride Of Frankenstein (1935)
    07. Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
    06. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
    05. Catching Fire (2013)
    04. Logan (2017)
    03. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (2014)
    02. Terminator: Judgment Day (1991)
    01. The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

I like the original Back To The Future far better than any of the sequels.

Logan is a great film but X-Men 2 is superior IMO.

How is Wrath of Khan not on there?

Terminator is a better movie IMO than T2 and I love T2 but Terminator is a perfect time travel movie with it being a causality loop which is hard to do.

Same for Back of the Future if not for the Chuck Berry Joke it would be a perfect time travel movie.

I also prefer Frankenstein, Alien, and Blade Runner to Bride of Frankenstein, Aliens, and Blade Runner 2049.

So, I disagree with half the list and call fowl for not having TWOK.

Not agreeing with this list. This includes choices and order.

Fully agreed with Wrath of Kahn. In terms of impact, that's the #1 movie I can think of that surpasses the original. How does that not make the list?

Personally I prefer A New Hope over Empire and the First Terminator but I know I'm in the minority and can understand why many like those movies better however....

    - None of the sequels tops the original Back to the Future
    - I found the original Blade Runner vastly superior
    - I liked Mad Max Fury Road, but Thunderdome is too iconic.

My List of direct sequels better than the 1st film and in no order

    Wrath of Khan.
    X2.
    Empire Strike Back.
    Spider-Man 2.
    Dark Knight.
Winter Soldier (As a Sequel to First Avenger which I loved.).
Nightmare on Elm St. 3 Dream Warriors (I know I said Direct, but this was IMO the best in the series).
    The Purge Anarchy.
    Dawn of the Dead (1978).
First Contact (As a direct sequel to the 1st TNG movie Generations).

Catching fire honestly wasn't that good and BR 2049 is overrated.

Disagree on the Empire Strikes Back - the battle with the Walkers was stupid based on basic military principles.

Logan isn't a sequel to anything, its in its own universe (imho, I know what the director said).

For the rest of them, I pretty much agree with the exception of Catching Fire. I really liked Mockingjay Part II better than the rest.

Well if the Empire had a truly functional military, the rebellion would have been squashed immediately, all the Jedi killed or gone into hiding in the first five minutes and "A New Hope" would have been titled as "No More Hope" instead.

I think generally Back to the Future II is considered the weakest of the trilogy. The most common criticism is that, apart from Marty's grim future due to his accident and the fate of his father in the alternate 1985, it lacks the emotional 'heart' of the other two films.

Also it's fast pace seems a bit off next to the other, more slower-paced films.

It probably uses the time travel aspect of the films the best though.

    The only correct answers are:

    Terminator 2
    Aliens
    Star Trek 2
    The Empire Strikes Back

    For me that would be

Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan
    Aliens
    Mad Max 2: Road Warrior
    Empire Strikes Back
I like both Bride of Frankenstein and the underrated Son of Frankenstein where you also had not only Karloff as the Monster Bela Lugosi in the mix as the sinister Ygor.

This is one time where I really disagree a lot with CBR's list.

    10. Back To The Future II (1989): Very good, but probably didn't surpass original
    09. Aliens (1986): Very good, but probably didn't surpass original
    07. Blade Runner 2049 (2017): Definitely didn't surpass original
    06. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) Definitely didn't surpass original or Road Warrior

    02. Terminator: Judgment Day (1991): I might only be willing to say it's tied with the original, tis a tough question, T2 is great, as is T1
    01. The Empire Strikes Back (1980): This is tough as well, I could maybe agree with this.
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

I have to agree, not to divert, any competent star fleet with comparable ship would go through the Empire like a hot knife through butter. Their land forces were laughable. The Death Star was a joke,

Wrath of Khan was a HUGE oversight on their part.

I was disillusioned with The Motion Picture. But WOK made me fall in love with Star Trek all over again. Incredible film (and the best with the original cast IMHO).
