    That is a great point. I heard a song by the Weeknd the other day that REALLY impressed me of this French song that was huge around the world one summer in the 80s:

    That is correct.
    I was going to include Voyage Voyage in my next segment, compiling artists whose songs (performed in the language of their country) registered on the charts outside their borders as well, and as you'll see this wasn't an isolated case.
    Some of these tunes were promptly dressed with English lyrics for broader acceptance, but that wasn't a requirement at the time. Some, like Desireless, stood recognition throughout the 80s without changing lyrics, but I think in the long run, those who performed in a bilingual fashion remained more popular in the upcoming decades, which unfortunately saw the return of the English lyrics preference.

    Here are some of the International hits performed in their original form.
    (And I pretty much limited the selection to those songs I found music videos to go with, leaving out the static image uploads, so there was definitely more).
