Default Strange New Worlds - aka - You Don't Get Something for Nothing

Now that you have been granted Strange New Powers and/or Strange Objects of Power, there is a catch. Wait, you didn't read the fine print? Oops, I forgot to post the fine print, oh well, that's no excuse.

Here are the terms of the deal. In exchange for receiving these boons, you must now post a write up describing, in story format, a short narrative involving you, or an avatar of you, and these items/powers.

It can be one post, or two but no more than that. You can write it any way you wish, as long as it involves one. some, or all of the Strange gifts you received.

You have up to two weeks to do this. If you can't come up with anything, let me know and I will find another way to make you pay.

    Good Luck.

About The Precocious Jewels from the Z-Files

    Source: Wondrous Tales Multiverse

In 1996 excavation was conducted in what would know in ancient times as Mesopotamian. What we found were seemingly ordinary gems with peculiar markings on them. A diamond, an emerald, a ruby, a beryl, and an opal. At first glance there wasn't there out of the ordinary about these gems except for the strange markings.

We took the gems back to the Zeno and research them. We conduct various tests, but it was only when we use live test subjects that we were able to discover the abilities of the gems. What we discovered was that each gem had the ability to grant a user a different, high-end power.

The diamond granted Momentum Enhancement, which granted the user the ability to increase the momentum of objects, themselves, and others. The emerald granted Causality Perception. Granted a user the ability to perceive and understand all cause and effect relations, deducing the path leading to any effect, allowing them to plan, analyze, and take action with absolute efficiency.

Ruby granted Time Stopping, more specifically granted the user the ability to stop time for a total of one hour. Beryl granted a user the ability to substitute one collection of molecules with another, allowing them to "switch" matter. Opal granted the a user the ability to accumulate speed and motion from any type of activity.

Granting them the ability to move at virtually any speed depending on how long they accumulate it. Well, almost any speed the gem doesn't grant immunity to the effects of acceleration. We learn that only one grants the user the knowledge of which gem gives which powers. which gem this was changed at random.

Which was annoying to say the least. We know through our research that no two jewels can be used together at the same time, except for the Knowledge jewel, and which gem is the knowledge jewel is completely random. which makes conducting research on these gems extremely frustrating. It's like whoever made these gems was a massive jerk.

Of course, if we can figure out the pattern of the randomness of the Knowledge jewel, than we can figure out how frequently each gem becomes the knowledge jewel. This will need extensive studying. We called these gems The Precocious Jewels, and we have no idea who the fuck made them.

Try talking to the Mages Council to see if they had any answers, but that just gave us the run-around, Damn asshole mages. Yeah, we're positive the bastards have knowledge on the Precocious Jewels, they just won't let us look at their damn records on magical artifacts, stingy bastards. Those Mage bastards even what the Precocious Jewels in their care, fuck that, the Jewels are staying with us.

Correction seems that the high-end power that each gem grants are random. We did a multi Trial and error test on the gems and they grant a different power each time. We know that if two gems can be used at the same time then one is the knowledge gem. So by trial and error, we can test each gem every time and figure out which is the knowledge gem.

By figuring out the knowledge gem we can know what powers each gemstone grants. Of course, this changes at random so we have to keep doing this Trial and error testing. Honestly, I think those mage bastards made these gemstones to troll with us. Yeah seems like something those assholes would do.

There wasn't much for him to do with the gifts he was given. He'd given the rod to some street urchin, who'd very quickly ended up getting caught stealing and sent to juvenile hall, while who even knew what happened to the staff.

He was too cynical to even dare try to use his power on anyone. Firstly, he had no idea who to trust to give powers to, secondly, he wasn't stupid enough to even attempt approaching another superhuman. With such a short duration of the power, there wasn't even practical use for military application, and they would likely just lock him up to use as a power pump if it did.

So he continued to do nothing worthwhile with his life.
