Current Daredevil is a fun read IMO. It mixes in lighter Daredevil stories with the usual dark shades associated with the character. And the art looks great. I think you will enjoy it. I also absolutely recommend Frank Miller's work on the book (Born Again is an all time masterpiece) and the incredible run by Brian Bendis & Alex Maleev, if you decide to go back and check out some of the "old" stuff. It holds up even against the best comics of today.
For the most part, I've enjoyed Mark Waid's Daredevil. There have been a few items I haven't agreed with--the seeming ease in which people can discover his origin, the current take on the Shroud, etc.--but overall it's entertaining. Sometimes a little strange, like with the current Foggy situation, but in a compelling, interesting way.
I like what Waid is doing with DD at the moment. He has recaptured some of the Devil-may-care swashbuckler attitude that made DD the unique hero that he is; he has toned down some of the Milleresque gloom and tragedy aspect a bit (which is good because each subsequent writer on DD after Miller tried to just copy what had come before and just continue to dump on poor Matt). Waid has dug out the gem at the core of the character and has polished it up a bit and added his own slant on it. This is a DD that I can enjoy reading again.
I just read the first volume. I will say that the tone is both lighter and darker at the same time as compared to Bendis and Brubaker's. I believe it may well be due to the art. Maleev's noirish style and Lark's noirish style really sets those books with a darker tone. This one with Waid's first volume is not so, and comes across as more lighter. I will say that my favorite part of this book is the artist's interpretation of Daredevil's radar power. I like the way that comes across.
It's probably my favorite DD run.I put it even above of runs like Bendis or Brubaker.
