Default If the Nintendo PlayStation came out?

How would gaming be different if the Nintendo PlayStation came out? Would it have been successful? Should Nintendo have agreed to the contract Sony made?

If it had come out, it probably wouldn't have been that big of a success. The general public would have just seen it as an extra thing for the SNES in the same vein of the Sega CD, which wasn't exactly a huge success. Being it's own system helped Sony with the original Playstation, as people are historically more willing to accept new hardware over add-ons.

The Nintendo Playstation also wouldn't have lasted long anyway, as it was first shown off in 1991 and by 1993 Nintendo was already working on Project Reality (the Nintendo 64).

No Sony Playstation as it's own console could have also helped out Sega, as it's cheaper cost and easier to program for hardware cut seriously into the Saturn. No Playstation 2 would have also helped the Dreamcast. Sega itself may still be in the same position it is now, as there were a lot of internal issues between Sega of America and Sega of Japan that were the root of most of their problems. But a more successful Saturn would have meant that Sega wasn't already one foot in the grave when the Dreamcast came out, which probably would have led to it lasting longer than it did.

It would have been a flop as console add-on were not popular. Not of Sega's set the world on fire and it didn't produce good games for the most part.

I don't think the Nintendo-Sony partnership would have lasted anyway. The past almost 30 years have shown that Nintendo and Sony have VERY different philosophies with regards to business and game design.

It would have helped out Sony more than Nintendo as it wasn't any secret that they wanted to get into the market at that point, it would have giving them more experience making consoles and probably would have accelerated the actual Playstation's growth

The only good games I remember for the Sega CD are Dark Wizard, Terminator, Final Fight CD, Sonic CD, and Lunar the Silver Star Story.
