I don't think Waid is a natural fit for Spidey judging by his past tenure. I think he even said himself that he just didn't quite gel with it.

Unscheduled stop is a grat one by Waid. But I'd rather have Busiek out of those options.

I'm not sure, but he seems busy regardless as he has four books - Superman/Batman: World's Finest, Shazam, World's Finest: Teen Titans and a Superman mini about Lex Luthor.

I do think that at this point we need a new voice, someone who would not have been an obvious choice five years ago.

I like Slott, Wells and Joe Kelly, but they've been around for a while. If there's an opening, Marvel should go with a new voice.
Mr. Mets with the most exciting answer yet!

    But, seriously, it's Cates\Stegman, easily

I still want Hickman to get a run.

    A 10 year run!

A run that ultimately spans the entirety of Marvel and culminates in revealing it was, in fact, just one epic Spider-man mega-story/love letter all along!

But I guess the chances of him doing it twice is remote. I still want him to get the chance, though.

Others I'd like to see are Mariko Tamaki (maybe on a satellite), Matt Fraction (his Jimmy Olsen book sold me), James Tynion IV (probably won't be coming back to the big two soon).

John Layman could do amazing (lol) things but I think he was too burnt out on his last foray into Marvel/DC.

For a big pie in the sky name, I think Scott Snyder has the potential for a really great run if he had a strong editor to reign him in a bit.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!

Honestly, this would be the preferred choice, Cantwell is such a great writer and that I put a lot of trust in him to do something.

I'll also add I'll love Vita Ayla for something that's more horror focused. If we're going back to Venom being "Spider-Man's enemy", I'll love Vita to get their hands on ASM just because that Venom arc would be dope.

Fraction would be interesting in that he kinda disappeared from Marvel/ DC. He's been a favorite choice since his Sensational Spider-Man annual, so he wouldn't be a new voice, but this would be something else, giving a writer who had flashes of brilliance an opportunity to show what he can do on the best character in comics. It's a chance for a comeback.

I suspect he would have a multi-year run with a definitive beginning, middle and end, kinda like his Hawkeye and Iron Man, which would be good for Marvel in the long term, especially when it comes to selling everything as back issues. A 38 issue mega-arc would be gold for them.

Another advantage is that he has experience working with others (cowriting Iron Fist and Uncanny X-Men with Ed Brubaker), so he could coordinate with a co-writer, as well as with people on another title.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

Another name from the past I could go for is Dan Jurgens. Out of Marvel's new-ish crop of writers, I would like Jed MacKay to get a run on Amazing.

He is not. Marvel just confirmed that with their Marvel Age #1000 announcement, he's writing the golden age Human Torch.
The original Human Torch finds his purpose thanks to Mark Waid and Alessandro Cappuccio!

    Peter J. Tomasi 'Nuff Said!

He is the GOATED when it comes to heart felt family dynamics and giving everyone a real voice and the characterization is on point.

    SEE:

    Batman & Robin
    Superman
    Super Sons

I just want positive interactions between Pete and his family and friends that's the best thing about him, give me some god damned LOVE for once and not the downtrodden "Parker Luck" slog we've been getting

Why people want cantwell after enduring a year of Wells's misery porn?
Is the worst posible follow up, at least with iron man we have Slott that the tone was less sad outside 3 moments

There are probably a lot of talented writers out there. I just have a feeling Marvel have a hard time to attract both writers and artists to ASM. Limited creative freedom and a hectic schedule of two issues every month (for god knows why what reason). Perhaps that's why the title with a few exceptions have just recycled the same names for a long time now.
