I feel the same about TNG....the cast never really "grabbed" me. I still watch classic Star Trek on the Heroes and Icons channel at home. And I have seen all the movies with the original cast. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is the best of ALL Star Trek movies. It is the only Star Trek movie that periodically gets a re-release. They had it at my local theater about 5 years ago.

I saw Star Trek II with some friends in the theatre about that same time. And before that, we saw a release of Jaws. And before that I saw Vertigo!

Great experiences, even considering the obvious fakiness of the Genesis planet diorama. "KAAAAHHHNNNNN!"

That Genesis planet demo was considered state of the art at that time. I remember our science teacher was very excited about it. One thing about going to the movie for the first time. During Spock's death scene there were some very audible sniffles in the theater. It was a very touching scene to a lot of people.

I saw the first of the movies (Star Trek: The Motion Picture) at a theater on 42nd Street in NYC on December 31, 1979 when some buddies and I went to see the New Year's Eve ball drop in Times Square.
This was before the clean up & Disneyfication of Times Square, so many of the movie theaters in that area back then were . . . more interesting.
I think Star Trek: The Motion Picture was the only G-rated movie playing in that area at the time.
