On second read though, I'm almost positive its Joseph because of the dialogue. What do you call those who refuse to stay dead sounds exactly like him trying to sound like Magneto, lol, while the whole point of Magneto being dead in the X-books is because he COULD return, but he chooses NOT to, for various reasons. There's no 'refusal to stay dead' with Magneto....if there was, he would have been back a long time before now anyway, because literally the only thing stopping him from returning is he didn't want to.

Resurrection Protocols are currently suspended. Hope's out of action due to Sins of Sinister, and while three of the Five can be replaced, she and Egg can't.

Wouldn't Goldballs be the easiest part to replace?

Even with the awkward retcon that the gold spheres he produces from his chest are unfertilized "eggs" for some reason all of a sudden, they still have to be reality warped(!) before they can even be used as incubuation chambers for the clone bodies via the modified DNA samples being inserted into them.

So from a logical perspective anything from an unfertilized chicken egg to a rock would serve the same purpose, since they too could just be reality warped into being viable.

The three main reasons he was chosen are likely:
    1. The gold coloring makes the incubation pods look more "divine"
    2. The round shape makes for a neat consistent design.
    3. It means the process remains fully "mutant", rather than having a foreign object or living being involved (which doesn't include that the memories are stored on a technological device based on alien materials).

Otherwise there doesn't seem to be a lot of reason why he would be more important for the process than a reality manipulator, an omega level cell manipulator and a time manipulator. Again because once someone is involved who can manipulate the very atoms of something into a different structure, producing golden spheres from one's chest seems rather less important.

All I wanted was to be unconditionally loved while never having to work on my flaws. Is that so much to ask?

IIRC Hope has been replaced by Synch before.

As far as the latest issue goes Hope is just reducing her involvement but things are still moving along with extra security.

And that's why we got SoS.

Hope's not completely out of action, spoilers:
she's just being limited on how much she's allowed to do.
    end of spoilers

And also, nobody says Joseph's resurrection has to be a recent thing. Depending on the angle taken, he could've been resurrected off-page at any point during this era, and there's an in story justification coming for why it hasn't been mentioned til now and where he's been.

Perhaps this is the version of Magneto that stuck around with X-Man at the end of Age of X or whatever it was called right before the start of the Krakoa era.

Guess we’ll learn whether or not it’s Joseph when that helmet is off and that violet shampoo’d mane comes a-tumblin’ down.

Very interesting. I'm sure we all expect Magneto to come back eventually but this would be a lot sooner than I would have guessed. Seems there is a good chance this is someone else.

I don't think it's Magneto when he himself wanted to stay dead.
Besides we haven't even seen his loved ones mourn him or even adress his death.

Mimic can mimic five powers at once. Oh, look… The Five…

Heck, he’s not even a mutant (but keeps getting lumped in with them like Longshot and Spiral) ..
