'Explicit' LGBT content is anything that acknowledges that gay people exist.

See, the two things are connected. You start to say that you can't speak about a people, then you start to creep in on actual history...

Me, personally? I don't think they should pretend that white, straight people are all that ever existed.
Call me crazy.
You mean like banning entire fields of research and education in college? or like giving control of the state universities to the governor, including giving him the power to fire teachers, while also placing far-right lunatics in charge of the New College of Florida?
oop, wrong thread.
Don't let anyone else hold the candle that lights the way to your future because only you can sustain the flame.

I'm not approving of the action just stating that the intention isn't to dumb people down in an intellectual way as someone stated earlier. They probably think they're saving the children in their ill informed way. I'm gay and wish that there was more visibility when I was younger but I don't think anything sexually explicit should be allowed relating to any sexuality.
It's not about sex, it's about hate. A teacher is being investigated for showing her class a Disney cartoon with a gay character. There are several similar stories like this one.
I think the issue is people view politics as a team sport and the other side as people who are intentionally trying to harm the country. Democrats are not groomers and republicans are not trying to make people dumber. Politicians will always put themselves and their donors/lobbyists first. If we try to understand the other person we come closer to rationality.
That's very nice in an abstract way but it has nothing to do with reality. There is no "both sides" argument here, there is one side that is banning entire fields of education, putting teachers on trial for showing disney movies, banning books and generally waging a full-on war against education and another side that at best is trying to stop them and at worst is doing nothing.
Making people dumber is "Politicians putting themselves and their donors/lobbyists first" There is a direct correlation between being educated and not voting for insane people. The demographics show it quite clearly, in the last 3 elections college grads voted dem 37+/38+/35+ while people with high school or less voted GOP 7+/4+/15+
It is impossible to have a rational conversation these days without it turning into a punch and judy, heroes vs villains show. I have been to university, good luck being a conservative. All the lecturers are liberal and shame any views with conflict with theirs.
If you think that their purpose it to wage war on education then you are lost, this isn't a communist country.
Since Barnes and nobles has banned books section up on their website as we speak, I assume this penalty is for putting books in school libraries that have been banned already. I was thinking of agreeing that this is too harsh, but then realized that this would also cover putting books in school libraries that really shouldn’t be there, stuff like the anarchist’s cookbook or porn, lol. And there should be some penalties for that, hmm…
Anyway, this should probably go in the politics thread, so I will refrain from complaining about how teachers don’t have hours enough in the day to cover all of things the parents Think they ‘should’ instead of focusing more on math…yes bringing up math again…I’ll stop now…
