Is there a list I can easily look up so I don't retread old ground on themes?

Your list does go back for many years though! It does come in handy.
For people who get stuck on a subject, sometimes it helps to use some website. For example MyComicShop.com has a search section where you can find comic books by the subject of the cover. I've used it from time to time.
Here is the link for the Advanced Search section. Then scroll down and choose the option to search by subject.
