    Col Henry Blake - MASH
Edith Bunker - Archie Bunker's Place
Hershel Greene - The Walking Dead
Glenn Rhee - The Walking Dead
Joyce Summers - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    Dan Connor - Rosanne
Beverly LaSalle - All in The Family - This last one may be a character people don't remember. Beverly LaSalle appeared in three episodes of All in The Family. Beverly was a man who used the name Beverly LaSalle when in drag. In his final episode (Edith's Crisis of Faith) he tells his friend Edith that he booked his debut show at Carnegie Hall, and invites all the Bunkers. However, he and Mike are attacked (gay bashed - off screen) and Beverly dies as a result of the attack. His death (at Christmas) sends Edith into deep mourning and she renounces her faith, until Mike is able to help her.

    6. Anastasia Dualla from Battlestar Galactica. They find Earth- only to find it's a devastated wasteland. And Dualla just can't take it anymore, so she kills herself.
5.Col. Blake from M*A*S*H. Saw this in reruns- the guy gets to go home, only for his plane to be shot down.
    4. Tommy Merlyn- another case that brought me to tears. I really liked the character of Tommy, and would have loved to see him grow into becoming the villain in later seasons. Instead, he's the first case I can think of for a male character getting fridged so the female character could evolve.
    3. Moira Queen- she did a lot of bad things, often for what she believed was the right reason. But for all of her faults, she was willing to give her life to save her children.
    2. Professor Stein in Crisis on Earth X. I cried. I admit it, I cried.
    1. Joyce from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was just completely unexpected, and the following episode (The Body) was one of the best episodes of Buffy ever.

Only listing one because this death was so sad that when I cried I didn't have to blink for the tears to come out.

It was from a show that I also didn't expect this to happen.

Google Futurama's Episode titled, "Jurassic Bark"

Hopefully this counts, but my next choice would be Leomon (Digimon Tamers):
