I think Orchis got the idea from the time-traveling Omega Sentinel from the future where the mutants beat the machines, at least if I'm remembering Jonathan Hickman's Inferno right. Beyond that, considering the machines have it out for all organic life, not just mutants, and already have plans to wipe out the rest of the superhuman population once the mutants are successfully eradicated . . . yeah, definite Days of Future Past vibes.
