Favorite fight, chase, or other "action" scenes in animation?

Usually when people talk about action scenes they just mean fight scenes, but for here any chase scenes, race scenes, or other intense get your heart pumping scenes count too. What are some of your favorite such scenes from animation, whether animated films or tv series, and whether anime or western cartoons?

To get things started one of my favorite action scenes is actually just of someone falling down...


But talk about falling with style!

There's a lot that makes this scene great. Usually in films or whatever people either fall to their death, get saved by someone, or manage to grab a hold of something. This scene ignores all those expected tropes and makes her fall out of a building into perhaps the highlight of the whole violent film, and that's saying something. She's screaming (because who wouldn't?) fighting that one guy who fell out the window with her, there's a bridge and street collapse, a surprisingly high body count, and a freaking explosion that throws her out of the hole and through another window a couple floors or so up. Like I said it's one of my favorite scenes of all times because it takes something I've seen many times before, someone falling out of or off of a tall building, and completely does something I've never seen done before in that situation. No bloody splat at the bottom, no hanging off a flagpole, no grabbing a clothesline and Tarzan'ing through a window into another floor's room, just complete over the top spectacle ending in a bang. I think more film and tv series makers need to be shown this film and namely this scene in particular.

Anime-wise:

The car chase that starts early in Castle of Cagliostro is said to have been praised by Steven Spielberg, although I think there's been some difficulty sourcing that exact quote.

For all the other criticisms of it's animation quality, Evangelion has some great action Eva vs. Angel scenes. In part probably because they saved money for them.

Cowboy Bebop of course has some classic fight scenes, but one of the best is certainly the first Spike/Vicious showdown in "Ballad of Fallen Angels".


My favorite is of course Gundam EZ8 vs the Gouf Custom, from Gundam: The 08th MS Team episode 10, The Shuddering Mountain, part one.

The best fight/chase/action sequence has got to be the motorbike chase/fight from Akira between Kaneda’s Capsule gang and the Clowns as they race through Neo Tokyo. It’s iconic.

Id say this one and Chun Li v Vega from the Street Fighter Animated Movie.

Atomic Blond had a lot of good fight sequences. I know technically it was chopped-up, but the long extended fight scene was great.
