It begins.
We open with the preview pages as we meet the newest Great Ring member, Lycaon, who looks like a centaur mixed with a two-headed wolf. As he's monologuing his own introduction, Lodus Logos tests him by throwing a knife which sticks right in Lycaon's eye. He is offended by such indignity. (He's a fast healer.) Storm and the other new member, Kobak, tell Ly to sit down as they have a pressing matter to discuss.
Jon Ironfire stands in the center and tells them that he was cut loose by White Sword and was given Purity, the actual white sword, and sent to Arakko. He says that White Sword knew if the enemy got hold of Purity it would be the end of all of them. Kobak asks if the enemy is the Amenthi demons but Jon tells him that it's Annihilation the one who holds it. That's when Lycaon spots someone in the distance.
Lycaon: Wait. Look. Someone approaches.
Data page, a piece of parchment titled "The New History of Arakko, Chapter MCXXX." It describes how each of the Ring members react to Genesis' arrival. Kobak, who sits in Genesis' seat, is prepared to fight her. Lycaon is impressed by her and wags his tail. Storm "feels" the adversarial energies around Genesis and the Annihilation staff, and knows not to listen to it if it speaks. Lactuca doesn't quite care. Lodus assesses Genesis and the danger she poses, knowing she's not found of poets. Sobunar's inner ocean is moved by what feels like the staff, like a moon, affecting the tides within and creating an ice age inside. Ora is basically considering how to get on Genesis' good side. That being that was Xilo receives a thought - "survival requires a fusion." He considers candidates for said fusion.
This is how Genesis is throughout the issue, gaslighter extraordinaire. Ora hears Annihilation's voice and is seemingly effected by it, stuttering as she responds to Genesis' questions. She calls Jon a madman and the staff repeats "madman", telling the Ring to see him as such. Jon claps back, accusing Genesis of abandoning the 100 when she didn't fight against the demons in Amenth. Lycaon tells him not to speak to her that way, clearly already on Genesis' side. Genesis uses her powers and vines appear from the ground wrapping around Jon and covering his mouth so she can speak to the others.
We lose Sobunar as he's quickly affected by Annihilation speaking to him, making him feel ashamed for practicing the new ways of Arakko. Genesis gives him a speech about how the strong survive and the weak don't and yadda yadda she's so full of crap. Storm cuts her off.
Genesis asks Storm who this "we" is, saying Storm wasn't there in Amenth fighting the demons nor fighting the Eternals on Earth. Annihilation is doing a number on Sobunar as he says Storm was nowhere. He calls himself, and all of them, cowards. Lycaon praises Genesis and says Storm has led them into error. Kobak slams his fists on the table in defense of Storm, saying he has faced her in the Circle Perilous and she prevailed, that she was instrumental in caging Uranos. Of course Miss G Sabah Nur is like "Why didn't she kill him? Why did she lean on humans and dying old men?" That's foul. Genesis she will not tolerate a crying child, Kobak, sitting in her seat and challenges him. He leaps onto the table and is ready to go right then and there. But Jon yells at him to stand down, that he challenged Genesis first. He breaks free from the vines (looking hot) and swings Purity at Genesis. Unfortunately Annihilation says, "miss" and he misses. G wraps him up again and takes Purity, holding it high about to use it on Kobak.
Storm says she will not allow this and moves on Genesis. Annihilation says, "Genesis is right" and Sobunar repeats this, surprising Storm with a blast of water. He says she has blinded them with honeyed words long enough and challenges her! WTF Sobunar! Annihilation says, "fight." Storm hovers in the air and asks Sobunar if he really wants the smoke. "And we shall see what happens when the ocean in your blood becomes a tempest!"
