Don't set your expectations too high with Jackson/Lanzing. I think this entire run shows they are always in the shadow of far more skilled writers.

Yeah this is probably the most high concept book they've done and its a total botch-job.

They do not have anything near the writing ability to handle the stories they are trying to do.

Ok, read #6. It was fine, not much to say, neither loved it or hated it. I thought the big reveal was already basically spelled-out last issue, so it felt weird to go through it again. I mean, it was heavily implied last issue, I thought.

    Also slightly disappointed when spoilers:
the Carrier's "only chance to do this" was just whispering in Kate's ear, I was hoping for a kiss.
end of spoilers No particular reason, just for fun - plus it would kinda reference a particular Doctor Who episode back when that show was still fun.

    Man...

While I guess that there is a "Meta..." angle where this does make some sense?

How many "DC..." fans would even know a third of what they would need to know to get the entire "Meta..." component?

And how many of them are actually reading this? Niche of a niche.

    I mean, wasn’t that spoilers:
when Captain Atom detonated and took out the entire Wildstorm multiverse?
    end of spoilers

There's a difference between a generic event and specifically referencing that universe. Especially since the comic in question diverged from continuity fairly sharply.

Really, the primary reason I'm annoyed is that that book ended with the promise of a post-scarcity society that actually WORKED (because they weren't beholden to be "realistic" anymore). And now it's apparently trashed, all for a storyline that nobody asked for.

All caught up reading now, and I think that spoilers:
the telling her Drummer's name and story came earlier, off-panel, and the "only chance to do this" was indeed a peck on the cheek
    end of spoilers
At least, that's how I interpreted it.

I liked how the story had a tiny bit if a break the fourth wall vibe to it.

Hm, maybe, it did seem rather implied. Plus, it would be a nod to spoilers:
the ship (temporarily) becomes a woman trope.
    end of spoilers

So who are all the people that show-up in this issue anyway? Retro Superman and some version of Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and a Superbaby. Not sure about the others.

    Seemed like...

    - A Cave Carson
    - A Richard Dragon

(In addition to what you already mentioned...)

That said, this did feel a whole lot like Doctor 13: Architecture And Morality.

With a little Welcome To Tranquility thrown in.

Ok, I don't know those characters, maybe I'll look it up later, thanks.
