I would love it if Grace Choi can return for this title as the team muscle. She has a great legacy with the Outsiders team and I don't think she has appeared since prior to the DCnU 52 reboot.
We are the Dora Milaje. We are the daughters of the 18 tribes of Wakanda. We are the teeth of the Panther God. Out of 10,000 years of sweat and bloodshed and battle are we born. We are the women of this ancient land. Deadliest of the species. And our time has come!

Bette probably doesn't know Dick in this continuity though, so it'd still make more sense for her to tag along with Kate. I think part of the problem is editorial might not like Bruce having multiple cousins.

I thought editorial was behind that horrible decision. Well, a different editorial team. Hopefully, the new editorial team recognizes what a bad decision it was and retcons it. Not going to hold my breath though.

Ok, the concept of this is interesting. Although, I feel like another title name would suit it more.

I think most of the previous Teen Titans continuity is back in but altered including Titans West. Bette was in that Legion of Bloom one-shot earlier this year with Dove and Bumblebee talking about how they didn't want to do a Titans West reunion.

Aren’t we still in the “everything counts unless directly contradicted” era? I don’t see them removing the connection to Dick from Bette’s backstory, especially since she’s been shown with the Titans.

    Having said that...

If DC wants to keep Bette away from Nightwing

than they should pair her with Batwoman, the best reverse Dynamic Duo that should have had a better chance.

In Kate's original solo series Bette's story was building towards something, but that all got tossed out the window (along with Kate and Maggie's wedding) when the writing team quit due to editorial interference. All subsequent writers seemingly haven't been interested in Bette. At least she didn't get hit with the villain stick like Jacob.

It seems to me that once it was decided Kate was Bruce's cousin she became a part of his support cast, and so her own support cast was mostly discarded. Remember when Kate used to socialize with Bette? (I think she did, I need to re-read my old collection). Well, these days (according to various guest appearances in Bat-Family books) she more socializes with members of the Bat-Family.

But now that this Gotham War event is supposed to tear the Bat-Family apart again, who knows, maybe its a good time for Bette to come back.

So the (hypothetical) question is...do we go with a Planetary sized team (3) or do we go with an Outsiders size team (5-8)? If it's Planetary...then we are maxed out and for me, it's a rather dull team. Nothing against Fox or Kate and it's always possible Lanzing and Kelly could make me fall in love with them...but I would be much more interested in a bigger dynamic. Kate is military, Fox is...well, I really dont know much about him outside of him being Bat-Wing...which suggests to me a rather darker oriented character as well (please feel free to correct me and give me good reason to like his character.) Then there's the new Drummer....blank slate. Kate definitely needs a counterpoint that Flamebird could fill. Grace Choi is another good choice, but only if there is an even lighter character. This group lacks any kind of serious fire power though and would benefit from her presence. My absolute dream...if the team is going to be an archeological oriented service....then bring back Lyla...The Harbinger as an actual person/character and not just an AI character. We could always throw in her old Guardians teammate Extrano for extra fun?

Luke is generally less brooding and intense than Kate, but he's not as contrasting as Bette, Dick, or Tim.

Bette should totally be one of their agents/field operatives .

I was just happy to see her in that recent Titans West storyline and back as Flamebird (with her hair back too).

I've had an interesting idea about the 'cousins' status with Batman, as I

also think it is too typical for them to be first cousins.
    How about this:

They're really 2nd cousins. Because Jacob and Bette's ever-unnamed father were really not Martha's biologic siblings
but were adopted by Martha's father (whoever he is/was as this has been mixed around in the past)

Martha's father had a sibling who begat Jacob, "Phillip" or whatever his name was. This sibling died

and the children were adopted by Martha's father - so they are both cousins and "adopted" siblings.

Therefore the relationship between Kate and Bette is actually 2nd cousin to Bruce.
Children of first cousins are second cousins.

I think it is simple and elegant in it's own way.
Richer folks do this stuff all the time.

Yeah, any of that sort of thing could work, just toss in a line somewhere to state they're 2nd or 3rd cousins. And hopefully they'll bring Bette back eventually, but going by the interviews it looks like there are no plans to add anyone else other than the stated 3 for this series. Bette did get a cameo in Kate's last solo series though, so maybe she'll get a cameo here at least.

    Second issue, Dec 12 release:

    “Monsters of the Unknown.”
What hidden tragedies lie inside the Forever Storm of the Enlil Triangle?
On January 1, 2000, a storm kicked up near the Enlil island chain in the mid-Atlantic. And it never stopped. As a West Point cadet, Kate Kane encountered something monstrous in those turbulent waves…and now, she is returning to face it alongside the Outsiders! But can she control her desire for revenge in the service of Luke Fox’s mission of understanding? What secrets will they discover deep beneath the monster-filled waves of the Enlil Triangle? And how will the Outsiders survive their encounter with the monster-hunting specialists of the DC Universe: the New Challengers of the Unknown?
This new, boundary-breaking dive into the secret history of the DC Universe is just beginning!

What is this about revenge? We already established Kate can put the mission first in the Elegy ('Tec) run with her training. Her dad lectured her about how her mission as Batwoman couldn't be about revenge - we've already covered this.

I'm curious to see this New Challengers of the Unknown group.
