There have been situations where a comic was brought back after a long time, but I don't think it ever served to get the title past the 100 issue goal post. There was DC SILVER AGE CLASSICS: SUGAR & SPIKE 99 in 1992, long after SUGAR AND SPIKE/SUGAR & SPIKE had its 98th and last issue in 1971.

Events like Blackest Night have added an extra issue to a few titles, but none where they got the comic in striking distance of a 100 field goal.

Other titles came back after the 100 number had already been passed. THE FLASH in 1958/1959 picked up at 105 from FLASH COMICS 104 in 1948/1949. MYSTERY IN SPACE had a return in 1980, at issue 111, well after issue 110 in 1966. ADVENTURE COMICS 1/504 came out in 2009 after 503 in 1983.

DC COMICS PRESENTS got very close to a hundred issues, ending at 97 in 1986. There have been several one-shots called DC COMICS PRESENTS [something]--if those had continued the numbering then it would be in the 100 Issue Club.

All of that would've been taken into consideration, but as you say, they didn't get there in the end.

For NEW FUN--that was the original title of the original comic ever from National Allied--just NEW FUN. It then became MORE FUN. And it then became MORE FUN COMICS. Notice the naming convention here. The first ongoing title was NEW FUN and the second was NEW COMICS. The naming convention wasn't COMICS as it would become later, it was NEW. If the Major had followed this convention, we could have had NEW DETECTIVES, NEW ACTION. But they gave up on the NEW (even though that was the selling feature of their line) and they probably switched to MORE FUN to distinguish it from NEW COMICS.

BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT started out as LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT--that's the title in the indicia. Yes it has BATMAN on the cover title, but that's not how it was listed for the first 36 issues; with 37 it becomes BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT.

HOPALONG CASSIDY was acquired from Fawcett in 1953/1954 and began its National Comics numbering at 86 reaching 135. Since you've included G.I. COMBAT, HEART THROBS and BLACKHAWK which were all acquired from Quality and continued their numbering, I think I've laid the ground work for introducing Hoppy as evidence, your Honour.

ACTION COMICS became ACTION COMICS WEEKLY (601 - 642) before going back to ACTION COMICS--but it had already hit a hundred several times by then.

There are some THE, - (hyphen), and & uses that might have changed during a title's existence. SUPERMAN FAMILY was listed as THE SUPERMAN FAMILY (but other FAMILY titles didn't use THE in their indicia). Some comics had weird numberings at their beginning. For example, STAR SPANGLED WAR STORIES in its second go round starts at 3, so when it reaches its 100th issue and when it reaches issue 100 are two different things.

I have no more to add at this time, your Honour, but I reserve the right to recall this witness at a later date, if it pleases the Court.
I'll make these corrections too. Let me know if you come up with any others.

Do you want to include MAD magazine? It started at EC in comic book form, and eventually was published by the same corporate umbrella as DC. The MAD office even moved to the DC office.

Good question. But maybe not. It's not a "comic book." Would anything else be considered in that case?

It's funny how Looney Tunes is the oldest title still going that has NOT had its numbering messed with. I'm one of the few people who buy it.

Is there anything current far enough along to possibly make it to 100?

Nothing. Most titles relaunched recently and have single figure issue numbers. The ones that don't already passed 100. The only one hitting 200 any time soon is Fables.

Are you talking 100 issues in one run or 100 issues overall with all combined runs?

And there is a sad commentary for DC when you look at all those runs real hard enough. Marvel has left them in the dust.

Individual runs, assuming the numbering continues. Looking at actual issue numbers getting to 100.

Unless something drastically changed, the Fables comeback is only specifically for a 12 issue run, #151-162.
