I'm hoping for a much better segue back to the status quo than what sounds like just needing a Bad Superman, but admittedly this is way more appealing with Lex off the board anyway.

And speaking of Lex I do like the idea of them doing a better version of Lexor with this.
Sure seems like Casey is at the very least starting from where Bendis left the Zods and actually telling a story in the first 6 issues that gets him into the place both Casey and DC want him to be in. Seems more like a better version of New Krypton which I suppose was Lexor in a way.

Dropped plot thread from 5G maybe? I remember reading some theories about why that was, think from Superlad and others.

I remember Zod being pretty much the chief antagonist throughout New Krypton, though.

But if someone is gonna give me a better version of the character of Zod himself, brand friendly or not, it's gotta be Casey. Or Rob Williams I guess, lol

Huh, Kryl-Ux being in this would work with Vordan's theory about this being connected to PKJ's plans.

    Quick summary:

-Jurgens established that Zod and Ursa had a kid named Lor, but the new version of Lor was his father’s son and was never mentored by Clark or went by Chris Kent
-Zod took his family and conquered a planet where he started building a New Krypton (which was really just him ruling over a species that he conquered and made to worship him like a god)
-During the Bendis run he and Kal made a tentative truce, Zod got a new planet to settle as reparations for Krypton dying and the old powers doing nothing to help, and official recognition from the United Planets
-During Williamson’s Batman/Superman run, Zod tried to revive the Bottled City of Kandor, his attempts were partially successful. He resurrected them but they were stuck in stasis after being revived and driven insane by a Lazarus Pit. Zod took half of Kandor to his new planet and Kal kept the other half with each planning to work on helping the Kandorians.

And that’s basically been his history since Rebirth.

Either we’re getting some flashbacks or Zod has been busy. Funny that a Casey written Kryptonian Zod may still have that “Eastern European” dictator aesthetic that the Post Crisis Zod had.

It looks like a Krypton flashback to me.

Announced at San Diego Comic Con 2023, Kneel before Zod unites the talents of writer Joe Casey and artist Dan McDaid, with the latter making his DC debut with the project. Following a prelude by the creators appearing in this December’s Action Comics #1060, the series — which is an ongoing title, and not the miniseries many believed when it was first announced — will debut in January.
Which in DC terms means it’s a 12 issue maxiseries with the potential for more if sales are good.

With all of this set up in mind, is Zod being presented as a larger scale DC Universe villain, or will he be staying primarily in the Superman books?

Anyone that can be classified as an 'Evil Superman,' with all of the powers and none of the morality…that’s a threat to everybody. It becomes a cosmic threat, and that’s something I hadn’t really done back in the day. All of my stuff was mostly Earthbound.

So here with Kneel Before Zod, dealing with different alien races and cosmic characters is part of the fun of the book. I’m having a great time playing in the wider scope of the DC Universe.

Kinda spoils what happens to Zod’s family, read at your own risk. Sounds like the Zod equivalent to that Cantwell Doom mini or The Black Ring for Lex. Superman himself will be in it as this phantom taunting Zod rather than having Kal physically show up.
