What’s sending me is that within the actual context of Orchis displacing and actively hunting down mutants, now is the WORST time for Kamala to change her uniform to be so obviously mutant themed.

No it wasn't. It was actually a swimsuit (which due to her being Muslim includes sleeves and pants) which happened to be in Carol's colours, which she sewed the Ms. Marvel thunderbolt logo on to, then added the scarf, mask, boots, and bracelet to complete the costume. It's inspired by Carol's costumes but it's not like anything Carol has actually worn, so it's no cosplay. I think the Inhumans later made one which looks identical but is made of unstable molecules, and that's what she's worn since. That costume was probably badly damaged when she got killed, hence her needing a new one from Jumbo Carnation.

Yeah, she interned at both Roxxon and Oscorp. Roxxon was a deliberate infiltration for the Champions, who wanted Kamala's Law repealed (which happened in Champions #9 after they exposed Roxxon's involvement). Soon after this, she noticed Norman Osborn doing something in New Jersey, and knowing he used to be Green Goblin thought he was up to no good, so she got herself a job at his company to keep an eye in him - not knowing this was unnecessary as Spider-Man was already working for him too!
While you're waiting for The New Mutant, Kamala has one last appearance in Amazing Spider-Man, #31. Peter told her everything, except for his secret identity.
