I'm wondering now if Superman and Batman meeting at the World's Fair in Byrne's Generations was supposed to be a deliberate reference to what you've mentioned!
Most probably, since Byrne liked to do those kinds of things.
My favorite just because Mercy vs Harley was so fun, Joker in a flying wing war machine was so crazy, there were robots, just overall one of DCAU's best script-wise. Only let down is the actual Superman and Batman interactions, which were blegh.
Silver Age (Earth-One)
1952 - Superman #76 - The Earth-1 version. It never actually says it's their first meeting, but they learn each other's secret identities here.
That's the one I recall my father telling me about 50-something years ago.
A bat! That's it! It's an omen.. I'll shall become a bat!
