“Strength is the lot of but a few privileged men; but austere perseverance, harsh and continuous, may be employed by the smallest of us and rarely fails of its purpose, for its silent power grows irresistibly greater with time.” Goethe
There was a lot going on with the rejected cover, its kind of confusing. The one that was chosen was simpler. Kid-me would have liked the one that was chosen better.

I agree. The published cover is far more effective than the rejected cover.
But of course, over the years the rejected cover has attained a kind of legendary status, thanks to it being rejected. I can see why it was rejected (and not just for the logo reason that's often mentioend). I find the Monolith's torso and especially his arms awkwardly and poorly drawn; plus the X-Men on the logo is gimmicky, almost too "clever" for words; it's silly. A comatose Alex (then a new character/not yet Havok) seems like an afterthought on the cover. Overall, IMHO it's a too-busy cover with wonky composition.
