And thank you to everyone who's sounded off in this thread.

It's not ironic in the least that I'm engaged to a wonderful person who's a gorgeous redhead. Nope. Not one singular drop of irony there. :-P

But this part of my personal life has zero to do with wether or not I "understand the perspective of those of you who want the Spider-Marriage back."
I will continue to be the person who wrote a married Pete & MJ in SPIDER-MAN/HUMAN TORCH #5.
And the person who wrote the scenes with Pete & MJ on top of the Empire State Building in SPIDER-ISLAND.
And the person who wrote every single page of the original RENEW YOUR VOWS mini-series.
And the person who wrote Pete & MJ in their 60's in AMAZING FANTASY #1000.

The decision to undo the marriage (in the story that eventually became ONE MORE DAY) took place *years* before I was ever brought on to the Brand New Day writing team.
Writing an unmarried Pete & MJ was the assignment. It remained the assignment when the book switched from BND to Big Time. It remained the assignment for all of my tenure. It remained the assignment for all of Nick Spencer's tenure. And it has remained the assignment today, during Zeb's tenure. If, in the future, a new writer comes on to ASM, it will remain their assignment as well. This is what Marvel wants. And a writer who isn't in line with that would not be brought on to the book.

I had/have no problem writing a married Pete & MJ.
I also had/have no problem writing an unmarried Pete & MJ.
As a writer for Marvel, I understand what the assignment is.
That doesn't mean that I don't understand how a certain vocal segment of the Spider-Man fanbase feels.
