Default The Promise (team) Appreciation Thread

The “other” mutants who were formerly in suspended animation. Unfortunately never seen again.

Perhaps with more attention on them, Marvel may finally bring some of them back.

Cool! About time The Promise got their own thread.

It would be nice if Marvel included them not only in stories, but also in any Handbooks and updates of that sort.

On the one hand, I like that so many of The Promise mutants seemed to revolve around psionic powers like telepathy and telekinesis. On the other hand, I'd want *less* same-same-y characters. (Like *four* of them are telekinetics? Boring!) If they stick to a psi theme, I'd love to see more exploring psi powers like astral projection, clairvoyance/clairsentience, psychometry, precognition, seekersense/'finding', apportation, psychic vampirism, possibly some exotic stuff like photokinesis or electrokinesis or mediumship/channeling/tapping racial memories or 'the collective unconscious' or something.

And to take it in another direction, a few Promise mutants who *aren't* human-looking psychics and have physical mutations like 'made of rocks' or animalistic form, could also be cool.

I know what you mean, but they need to stop with newer/newly-created X-Men, X-Men related, and mutant TP/TK characters.

    Then focus on The Promise.

I Promise it will be more refreshing! (Ya saw what I did there?)

I love The Promise. I think the work John Byrne did with them on X-Men: The Hidden Years was a lot of fun and it's a concept that could easily be used at any time in the mutant books.

I also really love how Amazing Adult Fantasy #14 was effectively X-Men #0, introducing so many of the same concepts, powers and prototype characters we're now so familiar with. It's really the lost pilot episode of X-Men played by different actors.

I also always found it interesting how the original X-Men comics by Lee & Kirby didn't deal with humanity rejecting mutants as much as the later stories by Claremont did. It was a theme that popped up here and there but it wasn't really something they explored much. Conversely, that first mutant tale in Amazing Adult Fantasy, very much in line with its science fiction roots, jumps right into people rejecting Tad Carter because of his strange powers.

A fun idea could be, since they come from various past decades, that they could be parents or grandparents of some known mutants.

Perhaps some of them could have crossed paths with Mystique, Destiny, Stonewall, Super Sabre or Crimson Commando at some point.

They seem like an interesting group and could've worked as a precursor to the X-men.

Absolutely. And I sincerely doubt Charles Xavier and Magneto are unaware of Tobias Messenger.

Wait, Lucy Robinson from Neighbours was a mutant all along?
