What happened to Spawn in Valeria the She-Bat

I've been reading Neal Adams' Continuity Comics recently. They had a title called Valeria the She-Bat that only published issue #1 and #5. Issue #2 was later published by Valiant's Windjammer imprint and, going by the ads on these comics, issues #3 and 4 were supposed to guest star Spawn. Anyone know why they didn't see print?

According to Neal Adams...

“We only had a handshake deal and he [Todd McFarlane] decided to pull the plug on it for… whatever reason he says. I didn’t quite understand his reasoning and I would rather not speculate. It’s his character, he has a right to say no. Unfortunately, that affected us and a lot of people who were interested in buying it.”

I've also read that around that same time, Todd and the rest of the Image gang were getting a lot of heat for their late books, so they were working hard on trying to clean up their reputations and Todd didn't feel that working with Continuity (who were even worse than Image in that regard) was a good idea.

I'm pretty sure I've also read somewhere that Todd was worried about over exposure, but this is something I read a long time ago pre-internet days.
