Default X-Men Monday 215 Gerry Duggan

    https://aiptcomics.com/2023/08/14/x-...ggan-fan-expo/

Mostly talks about X-Men and X-Men 25 with a little bit of the wedding between Tony and Emma.

His comments on the new X-Men team are interesting. We see five people so far (maybe with Juggernaut coming in later) and he mentions the team being large, but its smaller than his previous X-Men teams. So I wonder who else he might be considering on the team.

Plus there are more preview images but I can't get them to show on here.

Well from the looks of the addition to the new team which was by force not willingly.

I am guessing Cyke via Professor X role, Logan and Juggy. It actually is a dynamic team once you look at everyone else already on the squad.
Wish they would have added Gambit tho. But it seems no one has nothing interesting to write or to include him in, besides Dark X-men.

I’m hoping Logan is on this team… looks like he is, going off the cover of issue #29 where he’s in his old yellow-blue costume. I suppose for upcoming MCU synergy?

I don't think the X-office knows a thing about what's coming up in the MCU.

Duggan mentions writing Polaris and Sunfire so I'm guessing they're back on the X-Men as well.

Do you think they could’ve missed the internet exploding when Ryan Reynolds posted a picture of Hugh Jackman in the yellow suit filming a fight scene for Deadpool 3, just before the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike shut down filming on the project? It went pretty viral pretty fast. And that cover for X-men #29 was released not long afterwards at SDCC. So I figured somebody decided to put him back in yellow because of that. Maybe not, though. Seems oddly coincidental.

I'm very bored by Duggan's continued insistence that people are 'misunderstanding his job as a storyteller' when they dont get that he's here to just make bad things happen to beloved characters. Nah. Of COURSE bad things have to happen to characters SOME times but defaulting to that as the only way to write is just relying on garnering sympathy for characters as a quick and easy way to get readers to emotionally invest in them. Its a very limiting and (IMO) immature approach to storytelling. Stories are about conflict, about characters facing and overcoming obstacles, struggling with morality, learning things about themselves and the world....there are so many more aspects to storytelling than just 'bad things happen to beloved characters' and its very annoying that he's so convinced everyone else just doesn't get how being a writer works because he simply has no choice but to dream up worst possible scenarios for characters like Scott, its his JOB, see.

Yeah that immediately jumped to me... although it was said Sunfire's Otherworld story would continue on X-Men Unlimited. I wonder if plans have changed or if perhaps he's moving back to X-Men after that story is released on Unlimited.

Also there’s a difference between bad things/ conflict and trauma porn. You can’t tell me there’s a reason Cyclops has to have his eyes sewn shut other than shock value.

Maybe not MCU but the upcoming cartoon.

If it was MCU they probably would've brought back the Astonishing suit or a variant of it.

Now everyone is xman. So I think year 3 is a bit different. While synch talon Kate Rasputin and Kamala are a main team there will be additional members who will show up for a few issues etc

    X-Men Team appears to be:

    Synch
    Talon
    ShadowKat
    Rasputin
    Ms. Marvel
    Wolverine
    Juggernaut

Emma and likely Cyclops appear in supportive type role.

Rogue will be the link to UA. Firestar link to Orchis.

Sunfire, Polaris, and other former X-Men (of this era - hopefully the Astonishing Iceman as well!) will cameo/guest.

Duggans take on Emma and Tony hating each other is... interesting.

I was trying to do too much and not doing any of it as well as I could. But I've had a change of mind... though not everyone shall enjoy it. I will.

I'm hoping he's just saying things to try and keep interest in the wedding by making it seem like there is a possibility it is legitimate. But its really weird for him to basically say that the two characters hating each other is a valid way to start a relationship and then compare it to an existing marriage that would have some rough patches.

I can't help but expect all the romcom tropes where they're forced together, hate it and every minute they have to spend together, but begrudgingly grow on each other.

Oh, man. I don’t. Why would you wish another wallpaper role on Remy after all those years he was stuck in Excalibur?

At least from the Dark X-Men interviews with Foxe, it sounds like he’s actually getting something to do. (Fingers crossed.) Meanwhile, this team is just gonna be the same select handful of characters gobbling up all the spotlight, like most of the other Krakoa team books.

I mostly hope Kamala actually gets something substantial beyond these early issues and isn’t just another popular character stuck there to trick more readers into buying a stealth solo for the usual pet favs. (Or worse, saddled as the sidekick to one to help give them even more shine with new readers, like I suspect might be happening.)

I don’t mind the concept of her being a mutant, but I’m still pretty worried for her under this editorial/creative team.

My biggest issue is how all the said misery and blood is once again being used as the plot impetus for the same golden few while everyone else stays canon fodder.

Hope springs eternal, but if the last few books and previews for the next several months are any indication, it’s just more of the same handful of characters who’ve already been getting all the meaty stories and glow-ups this era getting even more.

I’m mostly worried that when the team full of POC is finally resurrected later alongside everyone else, we’re gonna get lots of “there, happy?? they’re not dead anymore, so shut up lol do you see how you were all so overdramatic about this…”

…while they’re still just there to serve as cheerleaders for the same folks who’ve already been eating up all the page time, with no actual direction or stories of their own.

Then again, maybe I’m wrong, lessons have finally been learned, and they stopped fully dismissing all the criticism of this shit as “online bullying” like they did during the summer of 2020... lol.

    We’ll see, I guess!
