Someone will definitely joke that Hickman wanted to write ASM, but didn’t want to deal with the Spider-Office crap, and therefore brought back the Ultimate universe for the sake of it.

I'm pretty sure there are Hickman quotes out there saying he didn't want to do it because the fans are hard to please. No idea what he's referring to, but the fact that he's doing (what I think is) a non-616 run probably does mean that 1610 gave him more freedom to do what he wants.

Honestly, I would prefer the original "Ultimate Spider-Man" to continue over starting all over again. The only thing that could make me follow it is how different from the classic stories they would be willing to go.

For example, in this world, Gwen Stacy would be a mix between her classic self and Spider-Gwen. Or maybe Mary Jane ends up becoming the Black Cat somehow.
