NYCC Bar Gossip: Action Comics To Be A Proper Anthology Again?

Recently, Bleeding Cool pointed out that it looked as if Mark Waid was going to start writing Action Comics in 2024. Well, bar gossip from New York Comic Con confirms that, as well as Jason Aaron joining the book, but that Phillip Kennedy Johnson, who has written the series since Future State and through into the Dawn Of DC, will be leaving the series when it revamps into something new.

    Confirmed: https://www.thepopverse.com/dc-comic...hua-williamson

Jason Aaron is taking over Action Comics for a Bizarro story. Then Williamson takes over to do a Brainiac story with Sandoval.

God fucking damn it, its Bendis all over again.

Like literally Bendis all over again, Jason Aaron is a writer of comparable quality to Bendis.

Why is Williamson doing an event by himself bad? Wouldn’t it mean a more cohesive story since one persons writing it?

Why is Williamson even being given Action Comics? He's already writing Superman.

Because he doesn't have a good track record with events. He's a pretty mediocre at best event writer.

Because he wrote 3 events by himself and they were all mediocre to terrible.

Dark Crisis and Knight Terrors were bad and he wrote those by himself. Action 1050 he co-wrote with PKJ and Taylor and that turned out fairly well. Hope was that he and PKJ would be working together, especially since Williamson has so many books right now. His Superman work thus far has been a cut above his usual quality level, perhaps this will also be the event he finally nails. Premise sounds fun enough, Superman/Supergirl/Lobo/The Superfamily up against Brainiac and his Czarnians sounds within Williamson’s wheelhouse.

I guess that's just how he prefers to write events.

Ok so in 2024 it looks like Action is going to get rotating teams:
In 2024, in the pages of Action comics, DC will be showcasing Superman Superstar creators - writers and artists that they admire working on Superman. Starting in January, Jason Aaron and John Timms will be working on a story called I Bizarro.
Aaron hops on, then Williamson uses Action as a tie-in for his Brainiac story with Sandoval, then presumably Waid takes over, then someone else takes the book, etc. Eh the Aaron story sounds interesting and I’m not opposed to using Action as a rotating creative team book, but I’d personally have kept PKJ. Still remember how mediocre some of the previous Superman anthologies that DC put out recently like R&B were.
