So you really think over 100,000 people who are vaguely into nerd culture will get Rocket Racoon #1 for free and not even one in 50 of those will pick up #2 because they enjoyed the book?

100,000 people received their comic, read it and enjoyed it. 99% (of those who are not already comic book readers) will never step into a comic shop to pick up the second issue. People are nothing if not lazy. They will not go out of their way to pick up a single comic (which is why selling trades in book stores is profitable). If anything, those who are interested will check out ComiXology (which would not show up in Diamond's monthly numbers).
Two issues in and Storm has already tanked into the 25,000 range. I don't like Storm at all but I feel bad for her fans since this book is now certain to be cancelled soon (as in 12 issues or less).
Marvel does not like supporting titles under 20,000. Storm will be lucky to hit six issues.
I like Storm, I just am not interested in buying her solo adventures in a monthly format. She might have been better served by an OGN, or outright calling this series a mini.
Loot Crate bills itself as the "Monthly Geek and Gamer Subscription Box."
You really think their customers have never been inside a comic book store or ordered from an online comic book retailer?
Those 120,000 or so issues of RR did not go out with a box of Kellog's Frosted Flakes. Though that would have been awesome, too.
I said they will never go to a comic book shop to pick up the second issue. That is an important distinction.
I am sure many have been to a comic shop before and maybe even own a few trades. However, the sales figures do not lie - the vast majority of nerds are not regular comic book readers. We are a tiny, tiny niche.
Sales usually drop by a percentage ...and by the 3rd issue starts to slowly drop as we know. In Rocket Raccoon's case...the company (Disney) is wisely pushing the character like their flagship Disney characters for all-ages. It has to be working since Rocket Raccoon has never had a monthly title before beyond a mini-series in the 1980's.

Whose idea was it to make Rocket a Guardian? Giffen? Abnett & Lanning? Brevoort? Alonzo?
