A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM might have fixed itself in Bill Finger's imagination when the movie came out in 1935--starring Mickey Rooney as Puck or Robin Goodfellow.

^^^Google says pipe smoking's been dwindling since the 1960s, w. approximately 1.5% of smokers in the U.S., especially older men, still using them.
    I.m a smoker and, i think they're cool.

If I wanted to gamble with the possibility of lung or throat cancer (not to mention emphysema), a pipe would have been my thing. I loved the smell of my grandfather's cherry tobacco when I was a kid.
^^^I always wanted a corncob pipe on account of Popeye...

True. Kind of like non-tux bow ties.

    LOL

If you're a certain age, Popeye was a big deal.

Smoking on a pipe--of some kind--is as popular as ever. It's the kind of pipe and what's in it that may have changed. It seems like most of the cafés and restaurants have gone out of business to be replaced by storefronts that sell to that clientele in my neighbourhood.

Superman should predate the Justice Society.

I hate the constant criticism of George Perez’s Wonder Woman by certain people on the WW forum! They don’t know how great he was for the character!

Why isn't Bruce smoking a pipe or wearing an an ascot anymore? They make him look distinguished.

Perez should be on the WW Mount Rushmore. Maybe twice.

I just assumed that was a deliberate reference to 1940's Bruce, and a metaphor for Robin breaking free of his traditional role in Batman's tropes.

Oh, that's the way I felt about it years ago, too, but you couldn't help feeling the anachronistic vibe going on.
