This feels like a retread of Hickman's Ultimates book, that he left partway through.
The Maker and his Children, Hulk being involved in blowing up parts of America, Tony and Thor on the run.
I don't exactly mind it, since I was interested in how the story would have played out if Hickman hadn't left. But, I was hoping for something much fresher.
This universe is inferior to the original Ultimate one.
Really enjoyed the one shot. They’ve really painted my boy Tony into a corner. This all encompassing Illuminati is a true obstacle for the Ultimates to overcome. Loved what Tony did to Captain Britain. I didn’t think I would be glad that this was going to be different from the last Ultimate Universe, but Hickman has done it.
"We live in a world of cowards. We live in a world full of small minds who are afraid. We are ruled by those who refuse to risk anything of their own. Who guard their over bloated paucities of power with money. With false reasoning. With measured hesitance. With prideful, recalcitrant inaction. With hateful invective. With weapons. F@#K these selfish fools and their prevailing world order." Tony Stark
It goes back to those two groups that always occur when Hulk is involved. I remembered how Hulk fanbases hated smart hulk in the MCU and wanted to go back to Edward Norton and Whedon Hulk. To a certain extent, I do wish we could see more savage hulk. It's a new universe, why not try something new.
I get the idea behind the original Ultimate Hulk. It's all the repressed aspects of Banner's personality, so you imagine this frustrated, emasculated, timid vegetarian having all of this pent up stuff manifesting physically into this creature and that depiction makes a lot of sense.
I think for most people, the idea of all of their darkest, most hidden and repressed aspects coming to the surface in an uncontrollable, impossibly strong being would be utterly horrifying and disturbing.
I enjoyed it but was surprised that the Invasion mini had actually ended. Feels like nothing was quite wrapped up.
