But he could team up with other members of the families.
For me I would like to see him team up with Damian & Captain Marvel
(refuse to call him Shazam)Damian because of his ninja background
Captain Marvel for gee whiz personality

I'd definitely read it. As has been said, J'onn is a tremendously versatile character with ties to half the DCU in one way or another.
I'd say at least start with M'gann M'orzz. As one of the few other Martians still about they've not interacted as much as they should.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"
"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"
"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."
Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!
I would, too, though there's a reason why Batman (and Superman in DC Comics Presents) were the headliners of their magazines - they were the top draws at DC. Fans of those two were far more likely to regularly buy a team-up comic - in turn, they would become more familiar or even introduced to DC's other fine lineup of stars. So, IMO, having J'Onzz in that role wouldn't make the best fit.
A bat! That's it! It's an omen.. I'll shall become a bat!

THE CBR COMMUNITY STANDARDS & RULES ~ So... what's your excuse now?
It's just funny it's gotten to this point - such an odd name that really makes no sense given his backstory and mythology. What does a random military rank have to do with him having the powers of Greek gods/myths? (and one Roman, but whatever - hehe, if they stuck to all Greek, then he'd be shouting "SHAZAH!") At the time, "Captain fill-in the blank" was just a fun naming convention for heroes, but going from Captain Marvel to Shazam to The Captain is just "let's try to keep the name familiar regardless of how it doesn't make sense anymore." Out of curiosity, in-universe was he ever called "Captain Marvel" anymore or was that retconned out. What's the in-universe explanation for the Captain name then?
Sorry for the tangent, but I liked Billy and J'onn on a team together. J'onn having been a father, it makes sense he'd have an impact on Billy, who seems drawn to surrogate families. Seeing them together again would be a chance to revisit that and show that these two have known each other a long time at this point.
Speaking of J'onn and younger heroes, I think he and Firestorm are a fun pairing.(not to mention that they're two underrated powerhouses that should give any threat a run for their money) Has J'onn ever poked inside Firestorm's fused brain? Maybe there could be a glitch in the Firestorm Matrix and they need J'onn psychic abilities to help them sort something out.

That's Mark Waid for you.
He can't call him Captain Marvel, but that's what he remembers, so it's got to be The Captain. Regardless of how little sense that makes for DC to even want to keep naming a marketable property after their big rival. He can't let go of the past.
That said, for all the good work he has done over the years, my words are very tongue in cheek as Waid is often at his best aping/playing up to his influences*. I am LOVING his World's Finest and SHAZAM. Maybe we should just affectionately call him Captain Nostalgia? Lol.
*I find Waid's use of nostalgia to bring back his past loves very different to, say, Didio/Johns.

I'd revive Justice League Task Force, J'onn would be the only permanent member, with a new group of mission specialists each 6 issues.
I think it's a great idea. J'onn is underexplored and needs more love. These team ups could be a good way to hook readers but also build J'onn and have him express different parts of himself. Just hope the writer wouldn't overshadow him.
A series such as this could cement J'onn as a bedrock of the DCU in much the same way he was the glue of the JLI. He may never rise to the same heights as the Trinity as a solo hero isolated within with his own mythology, but as a character who connects to the greater DCU's hero community, one with his unique perspective on humanity, he could become indispensable.
You could have J'onn team up with DC's various space characters.
