Land drawing this destroys any interest I would have in picking it up.
*sigh* you know what nevermind
"She never loved you, you know you always frightened her"- Cyclops
"And if she was here right now....Who do you think she would be more frightened of?"- Wolverine
This is a Black Phoenix? Multiversal Phoenix or something like that.
When Thane got the PF he didnt do anything with it. Let The Phoenix to mutants. especially redheads
But this isn't Jean Grey from 616 who died at the Hellfire Gala. This is an alternate reality Jean Grey/Phoenix who has plucked our O5, giving them their memories back, and then sending them out to save her reality. There are very strong parallels to the first what if story from Jean Grey #1, but this is not tied in directly to 616 yet.
For real. It ruins it for me. I won't buy and support his subpar tracing/reusing.
As a Jean Grey fan I have ZERO interest in buying this book, I'm wondering who they believe is interested in reading this storyline?
'Ya know at first I thought those frames above with the giant speech bubble was someone goofing us... I just can't take Land's art seriously...
Jean Grey in the words of Walt Whitman, from his masterpiece Leaves of Grass, "Song of Myself" (51 and 52):
"Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)"
"Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, Missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you."
Someday hope to see a series focusing on the seven-member team from the classic Thomas/Adams run. Feel like we've seen the original 5 revisted enough already!
I understand the annoyance with Land's tracing and reusing images (even reusing images from Phoenix Endsong here)...
But I'll still be buying it since I love the original X-Men, Teen Jean, and Phoenix-Jean.
I expect it to be a fun one-shot.
