The Stones followed Exile with Goat's Head Soup and It's Only Rock and Roll, to more great albums in a row. Pretty much anything with Mick Taylor was gold.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Goat's Head Soup is severely underrated.

    We're not the only ones.

If someone releases two albums on two consecutive years that top the "Best of" list for the genre, that certainly meets the spirit of the question.

And I like the Holy Land album. "He Turned the Water into Wine" and "Daddy Sang Bass" would be respectable heights for other musicians.

Actually, disregard that. I was thinking of Black And Blue.

The Clash- Give Em Enough Rope/London Calling

That might be controversial because a number of purists don't like Give Em Enough Rope, but I think it's great.

Glad we're not the only ones to acknowledge this.

Holy Land is a very good album. It just happens to be nestled between the (now official!) greatest country albums of all time.
