I think that I always knew that Darkseid should be Dark Side (or really Dark Zide), because that's how you would pronounce it in German. I hadn't taken any formal German yet in 1971, but I must've known some German pronunciation (given my family). The question in my mind was if that's what Jack Kirby intended. If he knew Yiddish, and German being close to Yiddish, then maybe. However, I thought it might be possible he meant it to sound more like Dark Shade. I never thought it should be Dark Seed, but guessed that many readers would say it like that. For me it was always Dark Side. The German pronunciation of the name is a good guess--because just look at him, he's wearing jack boots (so depressing when you look for images online and Kirby's original design doesn't come up).

    Exactly. Same with me.

I hated the way they pronounced Kara on "Supergirl." I always said "care-a," whereas they say "kah-ra."

I also hate the way some people say "lu-thorr." It's just "lu-ther" to me.

^^^I always picture HIM (and his sycophants) pronouncing it in the grandiose manner, while ppl who don’t hold him in awe pronounce it more plainly.

I pronounced it the same way, but I don't have a problem with the live-action version and like it better. I just think it's stupid having the same name as her Kryptonian one.

I like the former better than the latter myself (though I did call him "lu-ther" at first, too).

Same here. However, I think Ned Beatty had a certain way of saying "Mr. Luthor" that I quite enjoyed. Great acting.

ALSO...I thought it was so weird the way Ted Knight would pronounce Aquaman as "akk-wa-man" instead of "ah-kwa-man."

Same here. I also initially thought Orion was pronounced Or-ion rather than O'Ryan.

If Victor Zsasz is Hungarian--and it looks like a Hungarian name--then the proper pronunciation is /ʒɒs/ like in Zsa Zsa Gabor. Not really a j sound but the sound at the middle of pleasure.

It seems like every actor in movies and T.V. has a different pronunciation for Ra's al Ghul. According to sources, the proper way to pronounce Ra's is as Ra'ass. Like Hebrew, Arabic leaves out some vowel sounds, so I guess the ' means that extra vowel sound that's supposed to be in there.

Just a lucky guess but, since childhood, I’d always pronounced it that way too.

    Amazo.

It never occurred to me that it would be Amaze-o (as per Justice League cartoons), but I read it like Amazon (without the n).
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!
