In the early 70s Superman did actually legally marry Lois in a late issue of her solo title. He married her of his own free will but he had been under some kind of mind control when he proposed. Once Lois knew that she insisted on an annulment.
Prior to that Lois had married a mutant from the future and a convicted murderer, both of whom died shortly after the wedding without a chance to consummate.
