State Farm discontinuing 72,000 home policies in California in latest blow to state insurance market

State Farm will discontinue coverage for 72,000 houses and apartments in California starting this summer, the insurance giant said this week, nine months after announcing it would not issue new home policies in the state

The Illinois-based company, California’s largest insurer, cited soaring costs, the increasing risk of catastrophes like wildfires and outdated regulations as reasons it won’t renew the policies on 30,000 houses and 42,000 apartments, the Bay Area News Group reported Thursday.

“This decision was not made lightly and only after careful analysis of State Farm General’s financial health, which continues to be impacted by inflation, catastrophe exposure, reinsurance costs, and the limitations of working within decades-old insurance regulations,” the company said in a statement Wednesday.

“State Farm General takes seriously our responsibility to maintain adequate claims-paying capacity for our customers and to comply with applicable financial solvency laws,” it continued. “It is necessary to take these actions now.”

Remember that you are the one asking these questions and then avoiding any real dialogue based on the evidence presented, so don’t again resort to claiming you need to be asked non-loaded questions when others respond to you with factual evidence.

It's more important to keep passing around anti-trans psuedo-sicence, distracting from legitimate news involving the rainbow of bigotry on display from GoP officials and conservatives, and announcing worries over the rising fascism embraced by the GoP are exaggerations.

For some it’s vital to prove that Republicans might be .25% less transphobic than believed.

Leaving them still indefensibly transphobic.

The lack of data addressing said bigotry proves this is more about deflection than facts.

The personal attacks on those who point out said deflection makes clear the real objective.

Facts matter. If someone's wrong on a factual matter, this should be pointed out. We can't really have conversations about opinions if there's a refusal to accept facts. And if you're criticizing someone for being correct on the facts, why should anyone trust anything you have to say?

When pointing out how Mets is wrong on the facts (With Evidence, as shown time & time again) is framed as a personal attack/abuse, that counts as criticizing someone for being correct on the facts as well as being wrong on the facts again. So we simply shouldn't trust what Mets has to say according to his own words. The evidence of his own words isn't enough for Mets (as shown time & time again) but it should be for anyone else reading along at home.

A Russian court on Wednesday ordered a bar administrator and its art director to be placed in custody, accusing them of organising an "extremist organisation" under new legislation criminalising the LGBTQ community.

It is the first criminal case of its kind since Russia banned the so-called "international LGBT movement" in November, amid an accelerating crackdown on the community.

"The court chose a preventive measure for the art director and administrator of the 'Pose' bar," the Orenburg tribunal said.

They will remain in custody until May 18 and face up to 10 years in prison, according to the court in southwestern Russia.

The tribunal earlier accused the two suspects of "promoting non-traditional sexual relations among the visitors of the bar".

Law enforcement had raided the bar in March, and videos of humiliating detentions of some of the club visitors circulated online.

"The accused, people of non-traditional sexual orientation, acted in premeditation with a group of people... who also support the views and activities of the international public association LGBT," the court said on Telegram.

Russia has publically only put out a vague description of what it calls the "international LGBT movement", paving the way for the prosecution of anyone protecting LGBTQ rights or simply identifying with the community.

The director of the "League of the Safe Internet" and figurehead of the ultra-traditional faction pushing for repressive laws, Ekaterina Mizulina, hailed the criminal proceedings on Monday.

"This is the first criminal case in Russia after the decision of the Supreme Court to recognise LGBT as an extremist movement," Mizulina said.
