Default 2023- One of the best ever in gaming

This year has to be one of the best ever in gaming.

Seriously, the list of great games released in one year was crazy. In 2023, we got:

    Alan Wake 2
    Spider-man 2
    Baldurs Gate 3
    Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
    Mortal Kombat 1
    Street Fighter 6
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
    Star Wars: Jedi Survivor (post-patches)
    Lies of P
Remnant 2 (this was a game of the year contender)
    Resident Evil 4 remake
    Final Fantasy 16
    Dead Island 2

And I'm sure there are some I probably forgot. I actually can't remember a year as packed as this one.

I just hope that 2024 continues this streak.

yes a solid year, The Finals coming in at the end is a nice cherry
Risk of Rain Returns was a good remaster, and hopefully a good omen for the series now under Gearbox
Warframe also had a packed year of expansions for their 10 year anniversary
Darktide saw some overhauls that increased their playerbase as well

a few stumbles in Starfield and Payday 3, and the big scam of The Day Before but a lot more hits than misses

Also the year that gave us Gollum, Skull Island Rise of Kong and Walking Dead Destinies too though

But otherwise yes. I'd also add Horizon Forbidden West's expansion as well, although not as long or complex as Cyberpunk's Phantom Liberty it was pretty good-kind of poked a bit of fun at the franchise itself, with the Dinosaur theme park.

Of course like the other Horizon games it kind of got overlooked by Zelda coming out at roughly the same time. (Original Horizon released next to Breath of the Wild, while HFW's base game dealt with Elden Ring).

I've started AC Mirage but so far it's not all that different from the other games in the series, just kind of tones down a lot of the RPG elements of the previous Origins trilogy stuff.

Yeah, there were some turkeys this year and a great big scam (The Day Before).

But every year has terrible games, I think the awfulness of some games were kind of signal boosted last year to the point that one would think they were tons of bad games coming out when in reality it was just a handful.

    I completely forgot about those.

That's how stacked 2023 was. Robocop Rogue City in particular was a revelation.

Think 2025 will be the next big one, with Insomniac's Wolverine, GTA VI, and (possibly) Metal Gear Solid Delta and Death Stranding II.

This year so far seems to be mainly the second installment of Final Fantasy 7, the new Yakuza game, Star Wars Outlaws, and finally Skull and Bones and Suicide Squad, although those two will probably be meh.

I'm still hoping for a Darkstalkers comeback this year, in light of your 30th-anniversary list.

If they do anything it will probably be just a compilation of the games, although I'd very much be ok with a new entry.
