I think within the context of Blood Hunt, I could understand why T'Challa said what he said.

Cruel and Unusual spelled it out that they want Sam because they want a symbol.

Maybe its a little stretch to say the entire world needs Sam as a symbol but within the context of the book, I can see why T'Challa said it.

Personally I don’t see T’Challa sacrificing himself for anybody non-Wakandan lol. But seeing as he’s not on the throne anymore and seems committed to things staying that way, him being willing to sacrifice himself makes more sense. As far as he’s concerned he’s a full time hero, that’s the type of stuff they do.

But I think Mackay overall has done a pretty fantastic job with T’Challa. All the Avengers were getting messed up and it’s clear this was nothing more than setup for the BP Blood Hunt tie-in. T’Challa’s intelligence is being highlighted in ways it hasn’t in previous years and while I dislike the status quo of him being in exile I like that he’s allowed to cut loose a bit. He’s making jokes, being a bit competitive, and being positioned as one of the team’s key leaders besides Carol.

This is a more holistic portrayal of the character than we got in Aaron’s Avengers as far as characterization and skill set, definitely one of the highlights of what has otherwise been arguably the worst period in the character’s publication history. Avengers is a masterclass in balancing several top tier heroes in a team setting, with Panther, Scarlet Witch, and Thor being highlights/my favorites so far.
