Don't get me wrong, I can see the intent. And if it was any other artist I would be on/in/all over it. But Land's art just makes me want to vomit...like Regan MacNeil level of expulsion. And I cannot justify spending money on something I hate.

Assuming Ewing had any say in this but premise-wise I would've expected a more retro-style artist.

Can I get a female Loki that isn't Tom Hiddleston with lipstick?

I agree the first arc with All-Death/Black Winter were alright especially how Cates wanted to tie All-Death along with the Phoenix and Knull into some sort of cosmic pantheon before Cates had his accident and Loki ruling Jotunheim and Sif being the new Heimdall was more character progression than we have had in years. It's just the stuff with Don Blake and the God of Hammers thing was terrible.

Fundamentally for Ewing, the idea of Thor battling elder gods like Toranos and Utgard-Loki are interesting ideas, it just execution-wise, it's not good.

I disagree. He's fundamentally doing something actually unique with the character since... A long time. I love how he's weaving actual intrigue with the mythos and using Loki as a antagonist dynamic.

Not really convincingly in my opinion. I feel like Ewing just can't bring himself to write Loki as a real villain (so it's mostly obvious play-acting).

Yeah! Speaking of retro-style, I definitely know that Ron Frenz could pull-it-off (XD)

Issue #6 was ok, even though it was a set-up issue.
I see Martin Coccolo isn’t doing the art on issue #9, and as much as I liked Ibraim Roberson’s art on last year’s Thor annual,
it’s a shame that Coccolo isn’t doing it.
I hope it’s just a fill-in issue. I just wish today’s artists would have a longer run on books of at least 10-15 issues before a fill-in artist takes over.

So I got the newly released Thor JMS and Gillen omnibus. rereading it after about a decade ago and it been so long and great stuff. Too bad JMS ended his run prematurely athough Gillen did a great job on the loose ends.

Ewing (going by his Loki stuff) is going to go deep into the "gods are stories, legends etc" route which can be interesting but also a little frustrating.

I'm not going to judge yet but I suspect that's where Ewing is going with this.
I'm not a huge Thor fan/historian, but it's always bothered me that Kirby's original take, that the Asgardians were transdimensional beings did not agree with Mark Gruenwalds version (Thor Annual 10), where all pantheons were forged from godstuff seeded by Aten and molded by men. I say this because Kirby's 4th World/New Gods mythos was supposed to be a continuation of what happens after Ragnarok, and the Godwave creates the gods, without any human intervention.

I don't always like Jason Aaron, but Odin being around well before humanity at least made sense to me.

Maybe Ewing can find some middle ground. I think it's fair for all other pantheons besides the Asgardians to be molded from the godstuff

Thought #6 was pretty okay, but still not hooking me as I think I probably should be by now. It’s tricky, as I know Ewing is great - but this just seems a little safe so far?
