I saw the first review on Casually Comics, Sasha was both on point and hilarious, as usual. I think the one vid I saw was after the first couple issues. Haven’t seen the other one.

I mean, the sales can’t be good on this book, right? What I find both amusing and a bit mind blowing is that some sites (ahem, aipt) consistently rank this book pretty highly, even receiving their coveted 10/10 ranking.

Side note: equally amusing was a review of PG I read that also mentioned Fire and Ice equally glowingly. Claimed these were among the best and most refreshing new books out at this time. Yeesh.

The first was that the writers and editors of SG had no confidence in that character at all, since they spent their runs moving as far from the original SG as possible, and as close to Power Girl as they could. Which left PG...high and dry.

And it does seem as if the writer of this...."Power Girl" series is writing her favorite SG instead. She's successfully destroyed PG, and now basically wants to use her series to write the character it seems she really wanted, SG. Honestly the best thing DC could do with PG is to escort the current writer gently off PG, give her a SG title to calm her down, prohibit her from using PG in her new SG title, and give PG to someone who respects her classic character, and will commit to just pretending the previous bits of the series were a Dallas-style dream. Messy, but over quickly. And then build on the classic PG, giving her a niche to firmly distinguish her from SG, and give her a better role in the DCU.
Outside of DC Superhero Girls, when has Supergirl ever been written like Power Girl?

Aspects of her have been present in SG since her return in the 2000s. Initially, they tried to transplant PG's aggression and attitude into SG without really understanding how it worked in the character they were stealing from. Then they dialed a bit back. Now, it's other things. Which have been sufficiently discussed as to not warrant further explanation.

    Power girl things I like:
    Her with the Superman Family
    A member of the JSA
    Telepathic abilities
    Her name as Paige
The red Jacket over the cape
    Not Thrilled with:
The new 52 origin at all
Her and Helena Wayne not having a book or animated series

I would like a crossover with Scarlet Witch or Jean to help her deal with the new telepathic abilities

Good idea to put it all out there. I shall do the same:

    Power Girl things I like:

Having her associate with the SF more, be part of it, but not always there.
A member of the JSA and also a JLA back-up
I'd rather either eliminate a weakness, simply power her up, or give her a more active new power than telepathic powers of any sort
    Her name----Karen Starr/Kara
The jacket thing is a fad

    Not thrilled with:

    Nu 52
Putting her with random best friend forever.
Her character these days, it isn't PG.

I understand the reasons for that, some reviewers can be very generous with their reivews depending on the story or subject the book is tackling.

In this case PG featuring a female author writing an "introspective character-focused" story on a female character is very much Oscar-bait. Its that level of pretention where being sad about stuff and the existence of some feminist themes (regardless of whether its executed well or not) makes the story come across as deeper than it actually is.

Hawkgirl did a similar thing where the book was about exploring Kendra's history, how sad she feels about it and angsting over the "mistreatment" she's received at the hands of male characters. Its supposed to be "mature".

They're both in JSA if that counts.

I feel like Kara's aggression and attitude were too different in expression and context to be seen as being "stolen" from Karen. That's it as far as similar traits go.

The telepathy thing needs explained.. IF it has a decent explanation... since Kryptonian telepaths are already a thing despite being not normal for them, it'll work.

Also if she's gonna be a telepath.. Hello Megan!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought she lost the psychic powers in the Power Girl: Special after defeating Johnny Sorrow? Though she still had the astral-punch power.

I like the change of the visuals when they travel to the other world, but I still got the feeling than the identities has been changed between them.

And Omen... god, I liked the character in Titans, but here, is like having the Bendisboot Saturn Girl messing around.

I did not like Sauvage's art here.

The excessive pastel backgrounds destroy any sense of placement and what the hell is going. I had no idea what was supposed to be happening during the drug bust scene.

Like it looks decent in still shots, but Sauvage is terrible at drawing movement.

I vaguely remember Didio talking in some interview about "angry Supergirl" pitches being most common. If I remember right he even joked about not being sure why people wanted her back if they just want to write her as angry teenager. And I feel like the problem might be that many people consider Supergirl "iconic", but really have no idea what to do with her so she ends up going in circles and taking stuff from other characters.

Things I like about Power Girl

    - Being part of the Superman family while wanting to not be defined by Superman
    - Having an "in-your-face" attitude reminiscent of the early Superman
    - friendship with the original Huntress
    - being born at the same time as Superman but being younger than him because her rocket took longer to get here
    - having a killer body without either being ashamed of it or necessarily proud of it
    - being one of the first non-1940 era JSAers (the "youth" character on a team of older heroes)

Things I dislike about Power Girl

    - being defined by not fitting into current continuity
    - not having a consistent supporting cast
    - the "diet soda" explanation of her personality
    - lack of an established backstory (no stories about her arrival on Earth or pre-superhero life)
    - too many stories trying to redefine her (Sovreign Seven, Infinte Crisis, current run)
