Did she do that well in JSA?
As do I. Most books have the main star outshine the guest, this one boldly flips that, with the guest being the star. To the writer I would suggest that if you love SG so much, write HER, not Power Girl. And please, STOP writing Power Girl. I think many of us would rather not see PG, than see her character butchered, and watch her be ever so much less awesome in her own book than SG.
If this is the best DC could manage with PG, then why bother at all? It shouldn't be too hard, PG is NOT a difficult character to either understand or write, unless you are committed to writing her badly and completely out of character. Also, it's a minor nit pick, but still it's indicative of how these two characters are being treated in PG's own title, but the art, while nice, is wrong. PG has for the past thirty or so years been shown as taller than SG, not the other way around.

Yea she was a alt universe sueprgirl
They certainly could've explained the change better. It's easy enough to write - Kara Zor-L has been around since the 1970s (this came up at the start of the current JSA series), and as such is now about 70 years old (assuming she was about 20 when she debuted) - but being Kryptonian doesn't look it. So she killed off Karen Starr and created a new persona, Paige Stetler, with help from Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Needing that assistance is also why she's now closer to the Super family.
A doppelganger from New 52 Earth-2 also used the Karen Starr identity for a while when pre-Crisis Earth-2 PG was missing (thank you Doctor Manhattan!), and when she went home Karen Starr was possibly declared dead.
Being active before Superman is also why her name isn't Supergirl, unlike the Earth-0 Kara who debuted after him.

I insist than the writer wanted to write a Supergirl series so that is why she is writing Powergirl like Supergirl lite. Now than she have the chance to write the character she wanted, naturally it was to make her shine.
Honestly, the relation between both characters as IP is pretty strange. Sometimnes it seems like everything than works in Power Girl is given to Supergirl to improve "the original". Remeber how in the last times one of the elements than set apart both characters was the way how Power Girl was the survivor of two dead worlds?. Well, thanks to Tom King now Supergirl is the one with the trauma of survivng two worlds. You can argue than that was the first origin of Supergirl and King just returned her to her origins, but the way he put it it pumped up the trauma level. Each tiem the editorial are making both characters the same and not even physically can be differeciated. So let's make them different again, but now Power Girl must be the dubitave insecure adolescent like to the more assertive Supergirl... Sorry, who is the one who don't fits in human society?

I agree with both of the immediately preceding posts. I have noticed for years, ever since they reintroduced SG, that they were stealing personality traits and other things from PG to give them to SG. I had two thoughts on that. The first was that the writers and editors of SG had no confidence in that character at all, since they spent their runs moving as far from the original SG as possible, and as close to Power Girl as they could. Which left PG...high and dry.
And it does seem as if the writer of this...."Power Girl" series is writing her favorite SG instead. She's successfully destroyed PG, and now basically wants to use her series to write the character it seems she really wanted, SG. Honestly the best thing DC could do with PG is to escort the current writer gently off PG, give her a SG title to calm her down, prohibit her from using PG in her new SG title, and give PG to someone who respects her classic character, and will commit to just pretending the previous bits of the series were a Dallas-style dream. Messy, but over quickly. And then build on the classic PG, giving her a niche to firmly distinguish her from SG, and give her a better role in the DCU.
At the very least the negative reception to this run appears very outspoken, to the point Casually Comics made a couple videos about it.
So unless sales are good I can't imagine this run will going for long, probably get cancelled at around the 10-12 issue mark.
Glad to see I was not the only one who noticed this. Even the animated version starting with DC Superhero Girls had a version of Supergirl who was, even in body design, a Power Girl in other clothes.
The problem with this situation is than by having two characters than are practically the same, one of them eventually is send to limbo because is redundant. And honestly, I think right now PG is the one in disadvantage.
