Love those covers. Garcia Lopez is a true legend. I hope there are some new pieces with diffraction characters too. I’d love to see his take on newer characters like Jaime Reyes.

He did a variant cover a few years ago for Hispanic Heritage month.

Makes me wonder, if/when DC updates their style guide (while great, these are 40-ish years old), who would be a good modern choice to provide the art? My first though: Doc Shaner. He has the kind of clean art style that would work for a document designed to be used company wide as reference. Second choice: Bill Sienkiewicz. Kidding.

I think Jim Lee and later Jason Fabok have done some of this sort of thing.

Jim Lee would be a terrible choice. All the characters would have armor and shoulder pads. See the New 52 designs.

That was actually what I meant, the designs he did for the New 52 filled a similar role at the time.

Fabok would have been great if he was available. I believe he’s responsible for the modern Wonder Woman design.

In the wake of Johns taking a lot of the old guard with him, I’d say the top DC artists currently are:

Dan Mora
Daniel Sampere
Jorge Jimenez
Rafa Sandoval

I'd say Xermanico and Sean Izaakse probably have a chance to join that group as well.

Bruno Redondo is a top artist at DC in the moment, he even has some Eisners to his name.

Definitely a toss up between Dan Mora and Doc Shaner for me, both have a clean, stylised look that's instantly appealing.

Dan Mora easily! And yeah I agree that DC needs to update their merchandise artwork. It’s usually art from the 80’s or New 52
