When Smallville's Version of Wonder Woman Finally Arrived, It Shook The TV Show's Entire Universe

Wonder Woman may not have appeared during Smallville's small screen run, but her eventual introduction shook the world and Superman to their core.

Throughout its ten season run, Smallville showed fans the origins of many more heroes than just Superman. However, despite the inclusion of their fellow Justice League allies, Clark’s best friend, Wonder Woman, was absent from the series – at least during its initial run. However, the world of Smallville didn’t end when the series finale rolled credits, and a beloved follow-up finally introduced fans, and Superman, to Themyscira’s Amazing Amazon.

Any fan of Clark or Diana knows just what the two characters mean to each other. In practically any timeline, Superman and Wonder Woman are inextricably linked as best friends and, occasionally, even lovers. The Smallville universe is no different, as this version of Diana fights alongside Clark to change the world, and even save the universe with their compatriots in the Justice League. In this way, the "Olympus" storyline fulfilled the promise of the classic Superman/Wonder Woman dynamic while allowing the character to find her own way within the continuity established by the original series.

Wonder Woman may not have appeared in the original Smallville series, but her place among the pantheon of this timeline’s greatest heroes cannot be ignored or overstated. As a key member of the Justice League, and the D.E.O., Diana’s introduction changed both the world and the Man of Steel for the better, while reminding fans of one simple truth: in almost any universe, Superman and Wonder Woman are going to fight side by side to the bitter end, in order to protect the people of Earth.

Makes no sense why it’s being made so difficult to do

Laziness, maybe?

It’s a complicated situation. They begrudgingly agreed on 10 films even though they wanted 20 to flesh everything out and actually build up properly to Crisis. They also wanted to hold out hope that maybe they could have a chance for a “post crisis” film or 2 which would’ve been Batfam or JSA.

They set the spine on the DVDs for at least 10 more movies after Crisis.
