Jean Grey in the words of Walt Whitman, from his masterpiece Leaves of Grass, "Song of Myself" (51 and 52):

"Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)"

"Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, Missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you."

I find that mini so meh... But it gave us Jean back. I can't complain too much about it.
Yes. It was a very interesting coincidence. I remember being the type who preferred Jean without the Phoenix but I felt bad for the Phoenix when Jean wanted to cut ties.

Gail Simone will be writing Jean in a team up of classic super heroines

Jean is in her 60s X-men costume but why does one of the women look like her in her recent Gala outfit? LOL

I'm still the type who prefers Jean without the Phoenix (in official stories), but I thought the "break-up" was a mess. And that came after a meh story where - again - Jean is disoriented, lost, confused...

After being dead for such a long period, I'd expect her return to be more bombastic. But in the end she was back and it was really her, so... I'll take that mess. :)

I am also a huge Jean fan that prefers her minus Cosmic parrot, but I found that sequence and soliloquy very moving and poignant. Her connection to the Phoenix has cost her a lot. her family(her own mother died hating her, I 'd love for Jean to deal with that at some point.I nominate Tom Taylor, Gail Simone or Ron Marx, her marriage, her very life.

I understand what you mean, but for me the whole thing was heavy handed.

As it's often the case, the problem is the execution.

The PF comes across as emotionally black-mailing Jean. And Jean... I'd expect her to have a more nuanced understanding of her role. It's true that the Phoenix has cost her a lot, but it also allowed her do a lot of good.

That's the life of a hero, right? That's the life Jean chooses over and over again.

So, yeah, it was a bit disappointing to me that she'd still have that perspective. I'd have preferred if their split had come from a place of wisdom.

But, like I said, it gave us Jean back (and without any doubt it's actually her).

I think its just a generic action-like pose lol.

I wish they had included some pink energy around Jean, and made it look like she was doing something.

That was a beautiful birthday gift! 🥹

That said, I interpret Jean's exchange with Phoenix in Phoenix Resurrection as really an exchange with herself. As I see it, that part of her that is intrinsically connected to Phoenix and vice versa is simply reflecting back her own feelings. Phoenix is the mirror, detached and non-judgemental.

She is carefree, as she should be.

    No problem, sweetie. :)

The short breaks that I'd mentioned was just so you don't get too stressed/tired.

    Good luck. :)
