I'd be surprised if Carol ever went back to wearing a thunderbolt instead of the Hala Star. The thunderbolt is usually Kamala's symbol now (and Storm's been wearing something similar lately too).

She doesn't need the black costume back, she just needs a consistent costume that isn't changed every time we turn around. It's constantly being tweaked and each new design makes it more unnecessarily busy...see her current band majorette look. The book also needs a consistent artist. Its not something that really happens in modern comics sadly unless your Dan Mora.
I doubt it is Gail though, as much as I would love that.

Put the Hala star on the black costume.

The outfit has been a problem since she became Captain Marvel. If it had been a better design, fans wouldn't have been asking for the Cockrum design to come back. They need to discard it and start over.

Maybe it's time for Carol to do the classic "Hero goes away for awhile" and Sharon Ventura steps into the roll for a year or two or however long it takes for Marvel to come up with a new angle for Carol Danvers.

Of course you would have to mess around with the power set a little....

Just because some fans complain doesn't mean they're right.

I wonder if 616Carol could benefit from MCUCarol's mystique of being rarely seen because she's out guarding the Universe and shows up for big events...just for a short while...

"If only she weren't wearing pants...everything would be different!" :-P

I still don't see the design flaw from inverting the colors of the Ms Marvel/Captain Marvel suit and making it full body coverage, however it is often horribly rendered, in which case Marvel's Art Director should be stepping in and sending work back or changing duties. This is your attempt at a new flagship character that bears the company's name, set her up to succeed, not struggle.

There is no right or wrong when it's your opinion. If it had been a better design, there wouldn't have been so much negativity.

The Cockrum design was phenomenal, but it has become an anachronism since female characters rarely dress in modified swimsuits these days. While the Captain Marvel outfits corrected that aspect, they never had an overall great design. They were more utilitarian -- and an attempt to give her a military look -- which the character never had (or needed) prior.

Or have Ultra-Girl come back. Ultra-Girl actually wore one of the Miss Marvel outfits at one time.

Suzy needs to come back anyway. They haven't yet explored the fact that she and Carol are both half-Kree half-human hybrids, because she hasn't appeared since before Carol found that out (in fact I don't think she's appeared since before Kamala debuted).

The suit is an anachronism because it's modest compared to what you are seeing in pop culture right now. Wonder Woman shows more skin and that character is the feminist icon Marvel is so desperately trying and failing to turn Captain Marvel into. Plus, It's a superhero book not everything has to make sense. The real reason why no one wants to change it back is because it would be seen in some quarters as Marvel admitting that the "Higher! Faster! Further! era was a failure IMHO. That makes no sense, heroes change up looks all the time before going back to their classic look.

Likely because current writers are more interested in introducing their own lame characters -- and don't even know of Ultra Girl's existence.

It was a failure in some respects. They can take elements that worked from that era -- and bring back some elements from her Ms. M. days -- wrap it up in new, dynamic look.

I take it that's a dig at Alyssa Wong and her character Yuna Yang, who I've seen referred to as a self-insert?
