The title refers to Carol and Kamala's codenames, as well as being a meta reference to Monica's original comic codename (which was Captain Marvel) - Monica didn't take a codename. So Carol is already referenced in the name The Marvels.

Because it was never even properly announced. If it was, it'd probably be either Captain Marvel or The Marvels followed by a subtitle - like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania or Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

The Marvels actually was CM2, and I think they would have been better to name it Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels, but probably wouldn't have helped it much at the box office. Regarding Carol Danvers, Marvel is trying so hard -- but I don't think they are ever going to elevate her to A-list.

A movie whose entire gimmick it team up with unknown characters and without a confusing title was doomed from the start

They never made Carol relatable. Carol dont have family, lover, ambition nothing. Everything intresting about her happen offscreen. They are skipping through her story like its some recap. What was the reason for the hurry. Why didnt they even bother to open the comics. Usually a characters best story get prioritized but they didnt even glance at comics for some inspiration.

Most of the world never saw actual Carol Danvers and thats what makes it hurt. People are gonna assume Carol is a stoic emotionless superman instead of the Carol from comics.

Kamala was well established in a well received streaming season of MS MARVEL. Monica was spun out of the all-time best (?) performing and reviewed streaming program WANDAVISION.
I give the audience credit enough to not have been completely LOST because of the lack of the word "CAPTAIN" in the movies title on the marquee and posters...

That's what prompted this discussion in the first place - the article says Captain Marvel 3 is cancelled, so Thor-Ul asked what happened to Captain Marvel 2.

But here you are assuming for sure tan all the people who saw the movie also would had sen the series and most of moviegoers don't see all the Marvel series. A movie have to explain by itself, even if it is part of a trilogy or a bigger story. If you are telling than you need to have seen two series or to be subscribed to Disney+ to understand a movie, a lot of people are going to let it pass.

I don't know why, I just find it funny that Genis is going "I want my fathers' Nega-Bands" and Billy and Teddy are like "Muh Wedding Rings!!!"

I feel like at this point Lauri-Ell has more appearances than Carol's brother. I still miss Ronan.
