How work rights laws in these cases? When the corporation owns the rights to the IP but don't use them, I mean. Don't those rights return to the creators first before pass to public domain? Or the names first get free of trademark like what happened to the Captain Marvel name?

Hardcase was, for me, the best of the bunch. Loved Ultraforce.

When they started, my favorites were The Strangers, The Night Man, Mantra and Ultraforce. I didn't like the later developments in Night Man (as the book took a more supernatural bent) nor did I like the later changes in Mantra (when the 1,000-year-old warrior became a teenage girl). Ghoul and Hardcase were both favorites among the Ultraforce group.

Same here. Although, it's just sad that Choice wasn't allowed to join UltraForce (T_T)

I guess Prime was the main and most iconic representative of the Ultraverse.

Prime was one of the biggest but oddly nightman was used more in media. He even got a copy living in the main universe. Till marvel killed the mu nightman off right after.

I suppose than in live action, Nightman was far more easy to adapt (and cheaper) than Prime. Do you remember where was the MU copy-Nightman killed?

And, talking about iconic representations, how about this for a Ultraverse Trinity?:

It was in one of the x-men crossovers. Can't remember if it's the gambit or wolverine one. Both nightmans were there. Marvel had planned to spin-off the mu one into his own book than "changed their minds" killing him off. The ultraverse version and x-men members finished the bad guy after he is killed. Been awhile reading it.

Duplicate was killed in the third & final issue of Night Man/Gambit (T_T)

Oh right, now I remember. At least the OG (?) Nightman returned to continue his life in the Ultraverse.
Sigh, in the Marvel Univers, Ultraverse characters appears only to die or to confirm their deaths:

Alas, poor Rune. At least Jim Starlin remembered you, even if was only to be respectful for the continuity of the soul gems.

If Marvel is going to revive Ultraverse, I am willing to buy some new titles. I admit I am sometimes re-reading some of Prime and Ultraforce comics written by Gerard Jones out of nostalgia. He was recently released out of prison. If Marvel is going to hire him to write a new Ultraverse comic book, I wonder how many people will buy his new comic books? I sure won't.

I am afraid I do not know more about copyright laws than you do.

Also I would be. But most probably, in that hypotetic case, I think Marvel would be published them in an special format, jut to keep the license and the trademark of the characters and names. And then just send them back to the vault.

It is very improbable than Jones will ever work again for any other editorial in the USA as a writer, after his sentence. I don't think neither Marvel or DC want to be close to him and had choose to not even collect series where he worked. Which is sad because this attittude harmed the other creators who worked with Jones and who could had be glad to receive the deserved royalties. I think specially about Norm Breyfogle case.

Neither I do. But I think this year and the incoming decade we are going to hear a lot about that.

I will read its comics at some point most likely.
It was the 90s. Just about everything was successful.

I doubt Disney would hire Jones after what he did.

I'm surprised Jones is out of jail already.

But yeah, I imagine that might be one thing that keeps Prime in limbo. The first headline we'd see on Yahoo or some click bait article would be 'Marvel uses pedo underaged character'.

I just looked it up. Trademark expires after 10 years.

I wonder if the original creators would be willing to take a poke at Marvel.
