I planned to post this for Thowback Thursday in memory of Paul Neary, who was the creative force behind the early eighties revamp of Captain Britain, but time got away from me.

Neary gets a 'story' credit, though I'm unclear if that means he just wrote the dialogue, or was was also involved in coming up with the idea. I do remember it was weird that the ongoing plot stopped for a month to give us this little story (which I still love!), but now I think we can guess it was because of behind the scenes problems with Dave Thorpe being at odds with everyone else with where he wanted to take the strip.

Thank you for posting the above pages, Panic. They truly are beautiful.

May Paul rest in peace. His work will be remembered forever. Here is a nice tribute article by CBR: https://www.cbr.com/paul-neary-marve...l-uk-obituary/

    - Davis and Neary won the 1989 Eisner Award for Best Art Team for their work on Excalibur.

    - When Skinn left the company in 1980, Neary became the Editor-in-Chief. Neary began writing original Doctor Who stories for Marvel UK, but by far the most memorable aspect of his initial stint as Editor-in-Chief came when he hired Alan Davis to revamp Captain Britian, including designing a brand-new costume for the superhero...

Here is a nice X thread by the @ClaremontRun account: https://twitter.com/ClaremontRun/sta...06749534343171

    - Additionally, Neary’s connection to the Captain Britain mythology is enormous. It was Neary, as EIC of Marvel UK in the 1980s, who, in the words of Alan Davis "came up with the original concept for the revitalization of Captain Britain," and Neary who first hired Davis.

    - This contributes further to the continuity of Excalibur, as Davis explains: “So there is a bit of a historical thing here. Chris Claremont wrote the original Captain Britain, then Paul was the person who initiated the regeneration of Captain Britain and hired me to draw it.”

I love this! I really enjoy when they show Brian, Betsy and Jamie as children/teenagers, with the latter two being the wild ones and Brian as the serious one. I'd love to see more of their parents being explored too.

I really loved this story especially how Meggan is written. If STRIKE were to continue I'd love to see Meggan on the team.

The panel of Betsy with the children warms my heart as always but a little more at the moment considering she's currently working to rescue mutant children.

I'm loving the astral plane armor - the one if the first scene of the three.
Would love to see a full rendering of that one!
First Warren in Dark X-Men #1, and then Genis-Vell in Captain Marvel #1. Seriously, Marvel?!

Such a gorgeous piece! I’d love to see her in that costume again.
