Hello fellow Beetle fans!! It’s that time of the year again! Happy New Year! We’re back celebrating one of my personal favorite legacies at DC, Blue Beetle!! Show some love to our heroes! May this finally be the year we get all three consistently on a team and the solo book continues going strong!

Also on a side note, this year will be the official 10 year anniversary of when I started the original thread back in 2014!! Crazy how time flies

Happy New Year Blue Beetle Battalion!

I’m really just hoping that DC includes Jaime in more group images of the “relevant” DC characters. Splash pages, promos, etc.

Even being their most prominent Latino superhero he’s hardly ever included.

I saw this in the Starfire Appreciation thread and thought it was dope.
We are the Dora Milaje. We are the daughters of the 18 tribes of Wakanda. We are the teeth of the Panther God. Out of 10,000 years of sweat and bloodshed and battle are we born. We are the women of this ancient land. Deadliest of the species. And our time has come!

Yeah, it’s Gabriel Picolo who does all the Titans YA books that have been super popular.

I recall him saying that Blue Beetle was one of the characters he would be interested in working on. But DC doesn’t seem to want to do a Blue Beetle YA even though it seems like a perfect fit.

Funny you should mention that about a Blue Beetle YA!

Writer Julio Anta and artist Jacoby Salcedo take readers on a gripping and inspiring journey filled with both high stakes and heart as Jaime embraces his new calling as Blue Beetle!

Jaime Reyes is an ordinary high school student in El Paso, Texas, with a deep love for his family, culture, and home. Whether it’s working with his dad at the auto shop or a multi-generational barbecue filled with music and dance, Jaime loves nothing more than his neighborhood’s spontaneous gatherings that go late into the night. But lately he’s begun to realize that he and his border community are being used as pawns in an increasingly toxic immigration debate.

The last few months have seen armed troops deployed along the U.S. and Mexico border, manufactured crackdowns at official border crossings, and now at the community level, a mounting resentment amongst a group of disaffected and reactionary youth who believe they’re being “replaced” by El Paso’s growing immigrant population. And to make matters worse, one of Jaime’s oldest friends, Riley, has bought into the propaganda. What started off as innocent web searches has now led Riley down a path to joining an unabashed hate group with a chapter in El Paso looking to cause some real-world violence.

But Jaime’s problems get even more complicated when he finds an odd bug-like artifact while stargazing. He starts feeling a little different—like there’s another voice in his head pushing him towards his most base instincts. And to make matters worse, he’s been having surreal dreams that show him that the true threat El Paso faces isn’t “illegal aliens,” but actual aliens known as the Reach. In fact, according to his dreams, Jaime is meant to pave the way for the Reach’s impending invasion!

Hells yes! Freaking finally getting Jaime involved in the YA books.

Wow. The subject matter is gonna seriously ruffle some feathers.

Some “Superman Smashes the Klan” vibes.

Damn a certain part of Twitter and Reddit isn’t going to like that premise, but it does seem interesting. I hope they treat it with respect because it’s a very touchy subject for many! I’m excited to see how the Reach play into this and who the villains are! I’m excited, I’m ordering now!

I wonder if this is set in the same universe as the other Titans books (Raven, Beast Boy, Robin, and Starfire). I want to get them all

    Oh cool Jaime vs ICE.

His Mexican heritage has always been one of the more noticeable parts of his character so this is a fitting route to go for his first foray in the YA field.

Holy sh!t! That’s amazing. Way to go Jaime (and Josh Trujillo)!

I saw it being sold at Target and other stores before the movie came out. I guess that mainstream push worked.

The movie just got released during one of the worst possible times in this superhero movie era. Fortunately it did good streaming numbers so fans were interested but it takes a lot for people to get to the theaters these days. Hopefully WB/DC doesn’t judge the character’s potential based on the low box office and view the bigger picture of streaming and book sales.
